I ended up at the Maz in Sept 2022. I was transferred there from the GNH the day before after being brought in by paramedics. I was in heart failure. my mitral valve which had been replaced in 2017 failed at home. I was in life threatening condition. I went for emergency surgery to repair my valve again, but both my lungs collapsed during surgery (due to being a long time smoker this was a risk)My husband said I was in the or for 15 hours, I came out barely alive, in a coma, and on every life support device available. ECMO, multiple chest tubes, central lines, IV's femoral and arterial, breathing support, feeding tubes, everything possible to keep me alive. I was in ICU until the middle of November, 2 months after my surgery, during that time I had a stroke, a wicked infection, lungs that could barley breath but I was alive. I spent another month on the cardiac unit, learning how to walk, swallow, talk, think (couldn't even tell the time cuz of the stroke). I was transferred to the Glenrose for rehabilitation work until January 16th. It has been a year since all of this happened and I have nothing but positive things to say about the Maz and the Glenrose. All of the Drs and nurses did all they could to keep me alive. This past year I have had my issues but they are manageable. This hospital is the very best!!
