Very thorough health care team. Nurses from triage to treatment room were on the ball, asking the right questions and always professional and empathetic. Dr Thompson saw me. Very thorough assessment and discussion. His conclusions were right on the money and I have a working solution to a threatening health issue. Whole thing, flash to bang, was three hours. By Canadian standards is 2023, bloody exceptional. Thank you.

Waited over 5 hours to be seen for a severe case of pneumonia. Dr. James W Thompson needs to improve bedside manner. Patient rapport is important, stayed 2 nights in emergency to have a misdiagnosis on paper of hepatitis when treatment was for pneumonia. Left unattended for extensive periods. Overall, there is improvements to be made.

I went in the hospital, the 14th of Sept,to have a catheter put in that other hospitals would not do. Dr Annie Hutchinson was the attending physician and she was great. She mentioned that she would contact my specialist at the U ofA with the situation. It is now the 16th, Sat, and I received a call telling me that the specialist will call me Monday the 18th. I would like to thank the staff at Sturgeon for their professionalism.

I've had 2 babies here! First experience was great. Second⦠not as great. Low on anesthesiologists so was unable to get the epidural that I wanted. Although the nursing staff was amazing when things went too fast and there was no dr there to deliver. All of the nurses came in and were very supportive and confident. When moved to postpartum, my assigned nurse never came in to check on me (I had a no medicated natural birth) and my spouse had to go out a to request Tylenol/Advil for pain management and formula for my baby- multiple times. I was moved over to postpartum around midnight and I never seen that nurse. Morning shift nurse came in around 7 and she was awesome. Made sure we were all good and didn't need anything. She also had a student with her and explained things very well to the student. Overall, the nursing staff here is fantastic. Very personable and welcoming providers. I recommend people this hospital strictly for the nursing staff.

Went into emergency as my husband had a stroke, I wanted him to go to the U of A stroke hospital As he fell and lost control of his right side and fell, They said they have to take him to the area you live in. This was in the mornjng. He stayed there and didn’t look at him as he called me at one o’clock , as I thought they were attending to him , and was angry and said to pick him .
up, he could hardly walk into the house as I had to help him into bed. The next mornjng he fell and had to hold him him up. No feeling on his right side so I called the ambulance, it was definitely a stroke , unfortunately they should have taken him to the U of A but again, they said they have to take him to sturgeon. I am not a doctor but I know what a stroke is as I had a stroke myself, I know it was during pandemic but there is no excuse when my husband had a stroke and to leave him there without any treatment as I got worse. They took about a few Ct scans when he was there when they finally decided he had a stroke! On top if that, he had a heart attack in the hospital while he was there! They just gave him a nitroglycerin pill and said he can see a cardiologist when he gets home! I was angry, I know my husband sees a cardiologist at sturgeon so I myself, phoned the cardiologist to check on my husband as he is . He looked at him and then had him transferred to the Royal Alex for an angiogram where he had two or three stents. If I hadn’t phoned the cardiologist, he would have had another attack at hime! I am not impressed with thevSturgeon and I am niot the only one as I have heard other horror stories. I am angry as the medical system as when you have a serious condition, send the patient to the correct hospital, not a local hospital. For a minor condition, it is good for a local hospital but send the person if it is a heart attack or stroke, to the proper hospital where they can tend to your needs,

I read a previous comment about dr Thompson being a giant bully and I was like – that’s exactly right! One of the rudest physicians I’ve ever seen in my life. He literally said who cares to a young person with an unexplained low heart rate and bombarded no interrogated and BULLIED ME with questions that went on for about 10 minutes and he said those aren’t good enough âwordsâ to describe anything so do it differently then I did he kept saying not good enough I’m a nurse of 18 years! If my description isn’t good enough the problem is his. He did this to me about 45 times in a row. He should be taken off work he looks like a dying crack addict or something incompetent with a dire attitude problem that should be adjusted. After a few minutes of him he was so bad I walked out. He wasn’t doing his job anyways he is a danger to people and if you ever get stuck with him either leave or demand someone else. He’s only doing this because he thinks he can continue to get away with it. I am NOT the one to bully. He’s unfit to work he’s incompetent he’s unfit to practice and he’s a collossal bully that reminded me of a neglected child picking on someone he figured he could. There’s enough people to confirm this by now the hospital should have done something by now! Absolutely appalling behaviour. I’ve seen drs do this for years nobody ever cares they are never really called to account who else is he discharging or bullying until people leave he could be responsible for many deaths by now.

My husband was rushed to Sturgeon Hospital via ambulance. Firemen also came to house to pickup and work on my husband, they were fantastic, so helpful and extremely quick service, arrived within minutes, so greatful to the whole team, wonderful! They took him to ER and was put through immediately, was put on oxygen and taken directly up to ICU. The nurses and drs in ICU are fantastic, they take such good care of their patients and monitor constantly, when a nurse goes for their much needed break, there is always a backup. Took xrays everyday, sometimes twice. They talked to us on 3 separate occasions , different drs , with the same info of course, my husband has extreme pneumonia in one lung plus complications of COPD and EMPHYSEMA. They questioned him if he wants to be resuscitated and he said no if it is like a stroke and he would be in vegetable state or a heartattack that he could not survive, no. He is really struggling to breath and needs air hose hooked up but in good spirits. I realize they need ICU beds but they transfered down to unit 17, oh my God, the level of care is disastrous. Nurses very seldom come in to check him!! Respiratory, who I really respect were supposed to come in every couple of hours, does not happen. No xrays being done to check if pneumonia is slightly improving etc.
I always thought hospitals were to be fairly quiet, not here, laughing, talking in groups ( I realize shift change requires discussion) yelling etc. I am sorry for this review but I love my husband and I need him to be comfortable and looked after to highest extreme. ICU ARE AMAZING, wonderful care!!!

I would like to thank the staff in the ICU for the wonderful care they gave my brother when he was there on life support the first week of August 2022 and for their hospitality when dealing with my mom and myself. I would also like to thank Gerry Bender for being there for us and helping us get through a very difficult time in our lives, his kindness was above and beyond anything we could have ever hoped for, we can’t thank you enough Gerry you will always be fondly remembered by both my mom and myself. Thanks again
