I almost died when he sent me home without doing the tests that would have indicated I had pancreatitus. I was eventually correctly diagnosed by another doctor in er and was flown to Calgary where I spent the next three weeks fighting for my life.

I got this jerk in the E.R. one night. I was waiting for my appt to see my surgeon to get my gallbladder removed & i had the worst attack in my life (found out later i had a stone in my common bile duct) i sat in the waiting area for nearly 3 hours on the floor crying in pain then finally got in. it took him another hour to come & see me & when he got there he asked me what was wrong & i told him i was having a really bad gallbladder attack & i was told to come to the emergency room if they got bad to possibly get it removed quicker. He looked at my file & asked me if i had gotten this test & that test done(which i had)then asked me what he expected him to do. I looked at him puzzled & said i was just told to come here & he told me i quote "Im not a miracle worker & i cant make it snow" gave me a shot of morphine & sent me home. I slept for 26 hours & when the morphine wore off i was too scared to go back to the E.R again so i drove to Bow Island to see my family dr to get real service

This jerk of a doctor told my husband he was having a heart attack, then disappeared. An hour later another doctor came by and told us he wasnt. Nice of him to come and admit his mistake

We saw Dr Cowtan due to husband's very high fever. We were in the Emergency Room for 5 hours but Dr Cowtan was very thorough. He ordered a 2 site blood test, abdominal X-Ray and urine test. With each of these he found problems and gave medications. He had reviewed my husband's chart well indicating different things that were chronic ailments that we had not discussed with him. He prescribed an antibiotic according to the results he was able to receive that night. The remarkable action was he phoned us on our cell on Christmas Eve and let us know that from results that had taken a couple of days to receive, that it was indeed a different type of bacteria than expected and had the new prescription sent to a pharmacy in the city we were visiting. Maybe he did not have the best bedside manner but he did showe concern and was obviously following up on this case.

I didn't even know this site was here, but once I found it I wanted to tell you about the experience I had with cowtan. I was three months pregnant and was spotting. Headed to emerge and cowman was on. He did find a bit of blood in my urine. He did not do an exam at all. Just informed me that he found the blood in urine and I quote " go home put your feet up you are having a spontaneous abortion and it will be over by morning". Morning came and I contacted my own Dr. Had an enternal exam and was told everything was going to be fine. That was 26 years ago and our son is very healthy. Every time I see the guy in and around town I would like to drive right over him and let him know he should go home and it will all be over by morning

a few years ago my daughter was coughing alot and running a fever so i took her in to emerg, cowtan(will not call him dr.) was on, he told me I was too lazy to sit with her outside and that the fresh cool air was what she needed, the next day her family dr. seen her and admitted her for over a week with bronchial pnemonia and she was in the croop tent for the first few days. a few years later my son broke out in water blisters all over his body, i rushed him to emerg where cowtan said” it’s just an alergic reaction mom, you need to test out foods to find out what it is”, by this time i had seen this guy a few times and had had enough so i replied no sh#t, but is he going to be ok. he has a peanut allergy by the way.

We took our 1 yr old daughter to the ER after four nights of sleeplessness because she would cry when we laid her down which was not typical. She had a red ear and we had been giving her Infant Tylenol but it just wasn’t helping. Dr. Cowtan came in looked in her ears said they were a little red, but even if she did have an ear infection antibiotics wouldn’t help it. The next time we were in the ER was just a few days later after she woke in the morning with pus running out of her ear and all caked in her hair. Her eardrum had popped from the pressure of the pus that had built up in her ear. I felt so bad for her having to suffer the way she did day after day because Dr. Cowtan wouldn’t prescribe her any medication.

This man was very cruel to my daughternlaw; She had, had a an allergic reaction to her medication and her body was completly numb/She could not move from the neck down (I drove her to the hospital). Do you know what his remedy for this was? to pull her body from the hospital bed straight to the floor; where she banged her head hard enough to hear her head hit the hard floor. After doing this he told her to get up that there was nothing wrong with her! Because she was being treated this way she was screaming for help! What did he do he had police officers put her into a **** tank at the police station . Needless to say she could not walk yet for the medicine that was in her system had not wore off yet therefore they dragged her body into the police car.(my daughter-n-law was a well recpected person in her community and now she is fighting brain injury and finds it hard to face the public). Very, very unprofessional!

Waited in ER with a broken leg for 3 hours to be admitted. I know one of the nurses there and she said all he was doing was reading in the back, eating sandwiches while the ER was at least 15 people deep. He then proceeded to tell me that I did not need surgery and it just needed to be recasted. The cast cut off my circulation so bad that I had to come back to ER 12 hours later as my foot turned white. I THEN NEEDED SURGERY, and was told by my surgeon if he didn’t put plates and screws in I would have had a limp for the rest of my life. It’s Doctor’s like Cowtan that make the Health care system fail. Please make this man retire… no one should have to endure his care.
