I have been passed off to his assistant. Amy Harrison, She tends to have a big ego. I have followed their instructions, had severe side effects that left me hospitalized, and yet they have the attitude of you have Ra, they could care less if you are stiff, swollen and in pain. They treat the ra and if your blood work shows a teeny improvement she says they have your ra under control. (Like they have done their job) If my ra is under control, then why am in tears from the pain!!!! I am unable to use my hands from frozen wrists, swelling, pain. Their answer is rest your joints, take prednisone and see you in 3 months. They also put notes in your appt review that are not true, they make statements pertaining to your visit that they never discussed with me. They noted that I refused medication when I did not. They recommended that I hold off on taking meds after a severe reaction. So frustrated!

Dr McKay has little problem diagnosing you, but if it is a diagnosis that he does not prefer, such as psoriatic arthritis, he will tell you that “I am a rheumatologist, and we deal with complex, rheumatic diseases. Psoriatic arthritis must be managed by your primary physician.” Then, he sends you back to your PCP with no recommendations for treatment, and your pcp must find another rheumatologist for you. Meanwhile, your autoimmune disease worsens, you get sicker, experience more pain & inflammation, and develop additional autoimmune disorders. I know because the events I have just described all happened to me. Presently, I have 6 autoimmune disorders, yet psoriatic arthritis was not exciting or important enough for Dr. McKay to spend his time treating. Also, he runs late, he is rude & condescending, he lacks a caring nature, he has an inflated ego–which he will flaunt in front of you, telling you how important he is, and his office staff are impatient, rude, occasionally inept & condescending as well. From one who worked many years with doctors in Tulsa hospitals & in clinics, I will never recommend Dr. McKay. Do yourself a favor & see another rheumatologist.

Dr. McKay is an excellent diagnostician. My wife had been misdiagnosed with everything from lupus to simply being a hypochondriac. He was the first doctor to sit down with her and take a thorough look at her entire medical history.

I have been to several rheumatologists and he is the most knowledable and has helped me with my lupus a great deal.

After he diagnosed me with RA,he did not listen to my complains of pain and swelling and scheduled appointments many months apart. My symptoms worsened and I was not able this get a “sick” appointment. The front desk staff was rude and condescending. Is more of a researcher than a caring doctor.

Horrible, Horrible - Go somewhere else! The office staff is rude and the office is run down. Neither the staff or the doctor's/PA care about their patients or the pain that they are in. I have been unhappy with their services for about a year now, but have been so worried about going without medicine that I just stayed. I missed my last appointment. So what they did was, called up to my pharmacy, cancelled my prescription, told me in order for me to be seen again, I'd have to pay a $100 no show fee, and that they wouldn't be able to see me again for another month and a half. I have SEVERE RA, and I am 8 months pregnant. They know exactly what this month and a half of no medicine will do, and they did not care what-so-ever. I have been a patient here for 3 years now. Obviously, I told them I no longer am interested and in their services and I'll be finding another doctor. THIS OFFICE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT YOU. Find another doctor. McKay is very arrogant and wont even consider listening to any other issues or pains that you may be having and chalks it up to something else that needs to be reviewed by a primary physician. He's quick to shut down and stick his nose up in the air. Horrible bedside manner. And GOD FORBID you accidentally miss an appointment. And they aren't like every other doctor's office where they give you a courtesy call or text. Their office is from the dinosaur ages...

This Doctor is unprofessional and errogant. When my husband decided he wanted a second opinion and went to Mayo Clinic this Md wrote a letter to him saying he wouldn’t see my husband anymore. Thank you For doing us the favor. Mayo Clinic were quick to help and quicker to care. As an RN myself, it is disturbing at his lack of compassion and kindness. I know there is better in Tulsa Ok.

Please....go somewhere else. It take too much time to write all the horrible things this office and Dr did. It is makes me sick to my stomach that these people are allowed the priveledge of treating people for diseases that are wrought with pain and difficulty. There are however doctors that care. Make no mistake...Dr McKay isn’t one of them.

I have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, with Antiphoaphid Syndrome and end stage renal failure. I have been seeing McKay a few years. He is egotistical abrasive and not very likeable. He doesn't like any opinion (patient or other doctor) that doesn't agree with his. You're at the mercy of whatever rheumatologist the hospital assigns as he doesn't do hospital care. He constantly passes off anything he feels beneath him, to your family doctor. However, he is knowledgeable about SLE and his staff is pleasant enough. I have stayed because his clinc administers an IV medication which is crucial to my survival. I have noticed negative changes with McKay and the clinic the past 3 years. He hired an assistant named Amy H. This nurse practitioner displays a superiority complex that shows itself in an overbearing snippy attitude. She is exceptionally condescending and has limited knowledge about the kinds of diseases she is supposedly treating. Amy's arrival meant I saw Dr. McKay less. He no longer reads charts but depends on Amy's summation....many times she tends to minimize serious test results (such as 42% kidney function) or altogether forgets things, like a vitamin deficiency that became seriously toxic as she didn't monitor what she had prescribed. I noticed a high staff turnover in the clinic and nurses in the "infusion" room being replaced with less educated techs. Only one RN is supervising the techs and numerous patients receiving serious medications that can cause life threatening reactions. Techs, not nurses, are mixing complicated intravenous medications requiring advanced college mathimatical skills. The techs assigned to watch patients, as many IV meds can cause instant reactions, are not even facing patients a majority of the time. These techs are burdened with extra duties like making your next appointment, medication refills or are on the telephone with other patients. These inexperienced and minimally trained techs end up sticking me several times trying to start an IV or draw blood. SLE has destroyed my vascular system. This clinic and area hospital personnel can only access two veins. The veins have so much scar tissue built up that often the same vein is accessed 3 times....before an IV is started successfully. Many times the catheter can't go in all the way as scar tissue blocks it. An already used and exposed needle is reinsterted in the catheter and shoved into my arm, ripping a path through scar tissue. This is very painful. The vein now has holes that leak the intravenous medication into tissue, causes a fierce burning sensation. Over three years ago my family doctor contacted McKay regarding the placement of a port. Dr McKay wouldn't allow it. Currently the problem of starting an IV or even drawing blood has become even more problematic as the scar tissue has increased greatly. Two months ago, my family doctor decided that it was unfortunately time for a port and couldn't be held off any longer. Any admission to a hospital usually requires an anesthesiologist to start an IV on me after several tries by experienced nurses. Dr. McKay' s head nurse offered to speak to my family doctor, giving me her business card, as to the necessity of a port. She tried to talk to Dr. McKay but he refused to listen. Last month as I was receiving my intravenous medication at his clinic, Dr. McKay was notified of my impending surgery to place a port. I wasn't present but I was told he was livid. He was so angry that he immediately dictated that a letter be sent to me announcing my immediate dismissal as his patient. He refused to discusd the situation with my family doctor, my husband (a PharmD) or myself who tried to contact him. It is completely unethical and irresponsible for any doctor not to listen to the opinion of another doctor, his own head nurse, the patients family or even the patient in any situation. I also question the quality of care given by Dr. McKay whose arrogance makes him "think" he is the smartest in the room. I shouldn't be surprised, after watching him treat other patients badly, that he wouldn't allow me to continue receiving the medication for a period of 60 or 90 days until I could find another doctor and make other arrangements. This medication is actually classified as chemotherapy and just a few doctors in Oklahoma are allowed to administer it. I would caution anyone seeing McKay not to be lulled into a false sense of his dedication to you as a doctor. You are there to fullfill HIS monetary and research needs.....nothing more.

You're better off finding someone in a back alley to treat you! I had one of the worst experiences with Dr McKay and his ignorant assistant Amy. I went from being a fitness competitor that truly misses working out to living with chronic pain, stiffness, rashes, random fevers, self contained infections, color changing hands and feet...the list goes on, you get the point. I was sent to a full body bone scan, when I showed up for my follow up appointment (a month later) they didn't have my test results and instead of being seen my Dr McKay I was seen by Amy. When I told her the pain had been pretty bad (middle of winter) she told me I needed to exercise and strength my core. That's a nice thought however even in pain and not being able to workout in 2 years I can still take an an wheel from a standing position roll completely out and pull it back in. It is extremely painful and will exhaust me but my core is strong. Prior to asking how much water I drink a day she told me I don't drink enough, pretty sure 1 1/2 gallons a day is more than plenty. When I showed her a picture of my almost black toes (after a hot shower in a home heated to 72 degrees) she told me "looks like you need wool socks". I have since been diagnosed with vasculitis and raynauds. After the appointment that wasted my time I drove down the street and picked up the test results from St Francis and brought them to their office. Surely you would think that after reviewing them they would offer a free appointment to go over them, after all I did their job for their unprepared for appointment previously, nope! Just a voicemail telling me to go pick up a prescription for plaqunil. When I called back to ask for a review of the test I left a message. After not being responded to for a day I sent a message through their patient portal. The response was "no, you have not been diagnosed with anything but we sent that prescription in to the pharmacy for you". Sorry that's a rather dangerous medication to just start takin without a plan and diagnosis. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one that feels this guy needs his license pulled, along with Amy. I doubt the good experiences, mentioned on here, are from actual patients.
