he seems to know alot but i would rather learn on my own then deal with this arrogant man. He seems to be cold and unbothered by patients feelings. Its his way or the highway. He is smart but wants to play god and puts you down before giving you a chance. He leaves you with no hope for miracles in an injury field where miracles do happen.

Very concise to the point, he is a realist and tells how it is doesn’t gloss things over. He really isnt into trying new things as he likes to stick with what has been proven over the years. He has strong oppinions on things that he think will work and doesn’t encourage trying things that you think are better suited. He is very helpful when you really need him.

Dr. Guthrie will, over and over again, call in favors and stick his neck out to acheive the best he can for his patients. When you read unfavorable comments please keep in mind that he works with people who have usually just undergone incredible upheaval in their lives and are deperate for miricles. Dr. Guthrie does not pander to that desperation, or give the best case scenario and there is good reason for that. What a person with a new spinal cord injury needs, more than anything, is figure out how to live in the circumstances they find themselves. Time spent waiting for recovery that likely won’t come and not getting on with life is time spent denying the reality of what occurs in 99.99999% of cases. Some people are just unwilling to to hear that, and looking for someone to be angry with. I have John Guthrie and the rest of the staff at the Glenrose hospital to thank for the quality of life I now enjoy, and I’m not alone.

Very terrible man….like alot say he tries to play God…and he is far from it….very rude….errogant…if he does’nt like you watch out…he makes it hell….doesn’t seem to be a positive person at all…people who have had a serious injury don’t need to hear you will not walk again..we will teach you how to live in a wheelchair and that is it…I really dislike that man …he is useless…I would definetly seek another Dr. Im suprised he can practice….oh how i hate that man….He did absolutely nothing for my son….

Dr. Guthrie treats my daughter for quadriplegia. He is a superb physician in my estimation. He is competent and empathetic. He is always willing to do whatever he can to deal with our concerns. He has a wry sense of humour that I suspect many patients fail to grasp. He has always answered our questions to the best of his ability and has displayed a concern to ensure we understand the truth of our situation. We feel he has an excellent bedside manner. He is one of the most diligent and persistent men I have ever met and he works very long hours. I believe he does so out of compassion for his patients. We had a particular problem with a slow-healing wound that he resolved when others couldn’t and his intervention in the treatment of a pressure sore acquired in the university hospital (not under his supervision) was superb. He is the best doctor I have ever dealt with and I recommend him without reservation.
