I had knee replacement surgery done by Dr. de Souza. He is a very kind, compassionate, concerned surgeon, and takes his job very seriously. One thing that really impressed me was his gentleness when examining me: ie, being careful to not cause any more pain than he had to. The surgery was excellent, the care very efficient and timely, and overall I highly recommend him.

I had my first hip replacement done in 2011. The surgery went well and was for the first time moving without the horrific pain I have had for over 10 years. Unfortunately, almost immediately I started having a lot of pain in the other hip. I hung on until to 2015 at which time I had the other hip replaced. When Dr De Souza saw me within the first 24 hrs one of his first comments was acknowledging the second (last) hip done left that leg longer. He said it so casually, I’m guessing he new it on the operating table, that I , fresh out of surgery did not question it. His attitude led me to believe it was his intention and would allow for adjustment and correct length later. Through out the healing process the leg length was very noticeable. I asked him about this and he suggested I put a insole in my shoe to make adjustment. I asked what hardware was used in second replacement and it was different than used in first surgery with different length measurements. Prior to hip replacements my legs were the same length. I don’t understand why he would not “match “ hardware length to give best outcome. I have no pain in first hip and almost constant pain in second. The pain is in my hip, thigh and also effects my knee a lot. I was looking forward to experiencing, finally, life without daily pain. I understand mistakes can be made, but this was totally avoidable. It affects my quality of life. My activity is greatly reduced and experience constant pain. I asked if redoing would be a consideration, at he said it would be my first hip that would be adjusted. I don’t want surgery on a hip that has no pain. For now I’m tolerating this but feel great disappointment about what could of been.

2009 June 09 a day I wish I could forget but as you can see that total knee replacement still a bad memory fromDr Kelley De Souza. In 2015 it was removed and replaced by other Doctor 2018 I feel on top of the world doing things that I could not have done between 2009 to 2015.

Dr DeSouza was very ignorant to me!! Major attitude to everything I asked! Said I was too young and would only do a knee cap replacement. That made things worse!! 11 months later he did the total knee replacement. I still am in a lot of pain, knee will not straighten . I have a fair amount of bone fragments now in my knee and he told me he’s not doing anything more, but to live with it!!
My knee has gone from bad to horrible!!

At first I thought “Ya, I don’t like him” but by the end of my appointment, I hugged him. He is very caring and explained everything to me. My knee replacement went without a hitch and I was back to full radius within 7 weeks post op. He more thing…Dr dS knew I was nervous about potential falling after my surgery and his gentle manner gave me the confidence I needed. I did have a bad fall 8 months months post op while in Mx. I was told that my knee was replace by an artist and that nothing was damaged. Follow up with Dr dS confirmed that all was great with my knee.

I was never impressed with his manner with me as the patient. Consults and follow ups were 2-3 minutes at the outside most. My first knee surgery went well. I was more impressed with his interaction with me preoperative, maybe he was more in his element. My second total knee replacement was completely botched. My leg was knock-kneed when it wasn’t before and blew me off as being overly anxious. At my next appointment I went determined to have a frank discussion of all the problems I was still having and I kept talking for the better part of an hour trying to convince him to redo the surgery. At the end of that meeting, he would consult his colleges, but he did not want to redo the surgery. I do not believe he feels confident with repairs. I have another appointment coming up, in an effort to resolve this. I just want to get a referral to another surgeon who has done repairs of surgeries gone wrong and is confident with his/her ability to do the procedure. I know from other professionals in health care that my circumstance can and has been corrected in the past. I want to be able to lose the disability placard, cane and return to work hopefully before my LTD runs out and I am homeless. In fairness, should this get resolved satisfactory, I will update this and change the ratings.
