Dr. Martin Duffy was consistently late for all appointments and his staff were not the most polite. After attending a class set up by Dr. Duffy on what the procedures involved for my husband's upcoming surgery entailed, we were encouraged by the presenter's to ask our surgeon questions if we had any concerns and the presenters went to great pains to extol the virtues and availability of the doctors for questioning. However, when we approached with a question about the surgery that had been puzzling us, Dr. Duffy immediately went into defense mode and said we could call off the surgery if we wanted and his staff were outright belligerent. It was a difficult situation but with my husband's life on the line and not knowing our other options at the time, we, regrettably, went ahead with the surgery which proved a fiasco. My husband reacted badly to the surgery, suffered complications and his health deteriorated. We moved to Edmonton where we found a fantastic urologist who did the surgery that Dr. Martin would not attempt (instead of doing the more invasive but more likely to be successful surgery, Dr. Martin opted to do less invasive but ialso much less neffective surgery that resulted in a myriad number of serious complications). Dr. Martin said that we would never find a surgeon willing to do what needed to be done but in Edmonton we immediately connected with a urologist/oncogist who did the more drastic surgery thus rectifying all the issues and complications suffered as a result of the Calgary surgery. We are very pleased with the Edmonton urologist/oncologist but very disappointed in Dr. Martin Duffy's level of care and consideration and would caution patients to obtain a second opinion if you mert with resistance as we did as many of these health matters are serious and can have lifelong or long lasting implications worthy of making well informed decisions.
