She had a profound impact on my life and its trajectory after my stay in hospital. I can’t imagine how it would have turned out if she didn’t show up exactly when she did. her advice was sound and accurate. I hope she continues to be a life boat to those in need for a long long time.

Dr. McAuley has been so helpful. She validated all my concerns surrounding a shocking and jarring diagnosis of BPD, helped with switching meds, but most importantly validated my entire life experiences as someone who has trampled and squashed my whole life. Speaking with her, she was very willing to change my medication after I said my current meds weren’t doing anything for me.

She is definitely one of the better and more compassionate psychiatrists out there!

My experience with Dr. McAuley was mediocre at best. She makes really good suggestions when you lay it all out for her but GOD FORBID you express concerns that she doesn’t see, because then you’ll be labeled as an avoidant try hard who can’t accept failure. In a time of distress you expect your health care professionals to help you make sense of your thoughts, being empathetic and understanding towards your situation whilst still being insightful , but I was met with a complete opposite approach. it felt as though that any time i tried to explain myself she viewed it as an effort to challenge her judgment. I am a very logical person, but when it comes to mental health not everything is black and white. I do appreciate her suggestions on CBT but asking me to completely dismiss this other diagnosis that I suggested to be explored, constantly generalizing most of my concerns and completely devalue my feelings towards said concerns was extremely unnecessary and unproductive. I was very welcoming of her advice and insight and I was doing as I was told. I did not hold back with expressing all the thoughts that landed me in CSU, because I wanted to receive as much help as possible. That did the exact opposite, because she found my situation extremely confusing. I just want her to think if it’s so confusing for her IMAGINE HOW CONFUSING IT IS FOR ME(the patient in distress). She pointed out several times that she thought that I was seeking this diagnosis because I am seeking an “end all be all” medication or treatment that will solve my problems, whilst only wanting me to focus on CBT as if that is THE CURE TO EVERYTHING. I am not out of touch with reality and I hated being treated as such. I am depressed not brain dead. I wish she would’ve been a lot more empathetic in her delivery and maybe took notes to the GIVE method of DEAR MAN GIVE FAST that I learned in the very helpful group therapy. I loved all the nurses and I hope they know that they are the backbone to this industry. Just because you can regurgitate a textbook, doesn’t mean your emotional compass is aligned. I take accountability for any confusion I may have caused with any contradictions I may have said, but I’m not going to sit here and keep beating myself up for leaving just as lost as when I came in. I hope this criticism find you well Dr. McAuley, as I would hate for another patient to go through what I did ESPECIALLY during a dark time.

Dr. McAuley, is by far the kindest and most helpful psychiatrist I have ever worked with. She helped me tremendously during a time of crisis. I so greatly appreciate how she went above and beyond to help me heal.

An amazing psychiatrist and human being in general. I was scared to ask for help because I have not always had positive experiences with psychiatrists in hospital, but Dr McAuley truly made such a meaningful impact on my life and outlook. She met me where I was at and genuinely listened to the way I was feeling, and to my prior experiences with medications. She made me feel respected and heard and I could never thank her enough for everything she did in such a short period of time.
