I had day surgery, a colonoscopy and had to travel almost an hour each way. Well worth it, clean, polite, knowledgeable staff. The Dr was able to make a new diagnosis and took the time to explain it all after I woke up. All the staff were compassionate and attentive. A special thanks to Virginia, the nurse who did my intervenes . She was excellent. She took the time to find a vein, even switched hands. I did not have soreness or bruising after it was taken out. Couldn’t even tell where it had been. Awesome job, thank you. All the nurses in the day surgery were professional, kind and efficient, very happy I went North for my procedure. Thank you, thank you.

On June 13 I took my son to the Barrhead Health Care Centre. He had a kidney transplant in 1993 and is now in end stage renal failure. He had some worrisome symptoms during the night so I wanted him to get checked out. He has had a phobia of needles since he was a child but lately because of the impatient attitude of some of the staff at some of the Edmonton hospitals it has become very serious and he has been taken off of the transplant list. He started therapy before Covid 19 shutdown but only had a couple of sessions.
The nurses on duty at the time we were at the Health Care Centre were amazing. They took their time with him and eventually were able to take several blood samples and insert an IV needle without stressing him at all. The previous time someone needed to insert an IV he couldn’t handle it and ran out of the hospital. He has now volunteered to take a treatment that involves self-administered injections. I am tempted to contact the University hospital and recommend that they send their nurses to Barrhead for additional training

I had a difficult experience at this hospital with unprofessional nursing staff taking a “me first” rather than a “patient first” approach to care. It was hard to rate, as some nurses were great and others abysmal. Could hear others in a leadership role gossiping about staff. I’d say I’d classify my experience as “traumatic”.

You want to have a hospital smell like a hospital, it’s Barrhead Healthcare Centre. The wave of disinfectant hits you as you walk in the door. I have not smelled a hospital that smells so clean as this hospital. The cleaning staff take pride in their job. I have had nothing but good things to say about this hospital. Keep it up Barrhead!!

There was one nurse who was so rude and condescending, I don't want to go back. She never helped or actually inspected my injury, she just said I was mistaken and smirked when I tried to explain how the injury happened.

Visited Barrhead Hospital for a day-surgery procedure and was very pleased. The hospital was very quiet and had a relaxed atmosphere, which was surprising with the pandemic but very much appreciated. The nursing staff were all very kind and professional. I have no complaints at all and am very grateful to them.
