I had such a bipolar experience here it’s actually surreal.
It took over 5 months to see my first oncologist after biopsy confirmed cancer, and let me tell you after being diagnosed and left in the dark for 5 months, I had accumulated 6000 questions for the doctor- who then didn’t know anything about my case except for the chemo I was told I wouldn’t need 6 months prior if I had the DMX (which I did). Obviously I was caught off guard and had further questions, all of which clearly annoyed her to the point where she got up and left the appointment.
    Yikes.
So I get a second opinion from them and they send me to a very kind man who answered all of our questions and assured me I was in good hands.
    Yay.
Treatment starts and it’s a gong show. One out of 6 oncologists was kind. All the rest were really inconvenienced by my terminal illness. They acted smug, dismissive, combative and at times, psychopathic. One Medical onc wrote 2 different stages of cancer in my chart and berated me for questioning it. They dismissed just about every symptom I experienced but still continued to ask me the same 100 questions each time, checking off their boxes, not caring what the answers were as if it was more of a research data collecting operation. Scans booked incorrectly, nothing ever on time, charged for parking (total over 2 years $2300). I was denied a social worker, nutritionist, therapist and any other resource that was available. Most doctor appointments were a minimum 1 hour late, up to 3. (I always just left at the 3 hour mark…parking gets expensive). Their communication skills were subpar, everything was a mess. Basically a nightmare.
    Yikes.
Radiation was easy and the staff working the machines were above and beyond compassionate and caring in every way.
    Yay.
Zero follow up for two years. Cancer agency has rejected 3 referrals from my family physician, despite numerous symptoms of recurrence.
    Yikes.

This place can drive a person mad never knowing which kind of doctor they will face each time they go. Will they know I’m human today? Or am I going to be met with cold callousness? Will they even show up?
It’s nerve racking and wildly in contrast with the care part of health care.

Good luck, folks. May the odds be in your favor.

They’re quick to pass the buck onto someone else and simply follow their protocols, will not go out of their way to truly advocate for you. Nobody seems to know what they’re doing it’s impossible to get ahold of anybody in a timely fashion, constantly forget to even tell patients about their appointments or any changes made.

I found the Kelowna cancer clinic to be the most amzing place. The doctors, nurses and support staff were all amazing. My cancer treatments were made easier because all the staff made me feel I was getting the best care possible.

Some doctors here think they’re too good for filling out patient disability forms and really could care less about your cancer or care. Parking is non existant. It’s the worse place to be.

Ugh where to begin . My first oncologist was none other than the arrogant , chemo obsessed, Dr Simon Baxter . His specialty was checking his emails while you were in the office asking questions . If he didn't like a challenging question , he would just say , no , I'm not going to answer that . Onto Dr. Delilah Topic . Nice make up and hair but couldn't tell the difference between a dangerous neck node and mononucleosis. Then wouldn't test me for mono? Always late, sometimes an hour or more. Never apologized because she's a doctor , right? You are a schlep with cancer. I would ask my GP questions that were cancer related and she would refer me to Dr Topic. But guess what , Dr Topic is way to busy to answer the ONE question and refuses to talk to me and tells her receptionist to send me back to my GP. I would show up for Thursday ‘s appt and was told they cancelled it on Tues. when I asked the office mngr about this , she told me not to take it so personally, it happens all of the time . Found out they sent my reports and visit summaries to the wrong doctors for two years . I complained to the patient care quality office and in stead of 40 days , it took two of their employees ( one quit) 14 months to come up with a letter that stated I had Advanced Leukemia, instead of the right cancer , the Doctors name wrong and my name was wrong in their final response letter. Then incoming Dr venter ,acting like an oncologist . He was kind at first when you ask too many questions and he can't answer them , he goes rogue . He calls a liver surgeon that is removing a two litre cyst in four days . Dr venter goes roque and calls Dr Eeson and says I'm immunocomprimised which he knew because he introduced us . . No discussion about my body, my decision, you provide the info , I'll make the decision. Dr Venter smugly me informs me twice in his phone calls that he called Dr Eeson ( very fickle doctor - not stable) . The we find out that venter , he's only a GP that works in the office , so they switch the blame to an incoming Oncologist - a real one, Dr Garner . Then Dr. Eeson, Dr Venter and Dr Garber lie about who called who ? Effectively , if I don't bend the knee to the cancer centre and their pushy chemo - I will get no help from any other doctors to drain the two litre cyst . So they've sent me and hundreds like to the “kill pen” MAID. Dr Garner did call me back three weeks later and I asked why she would do something like that - “ I just got pulled into it she said”. Ya, no integrity, no moral compass . Great place for honest hard working people to have cancer - ITS A ZOO. What a rodeo that place is . It's scattered, disorganized and I'm sure the Director of Ops, Mike just hopes that no one catches on to his crazy bin. I've written to the college of surgeons and physicians . There's a plan ! Doctors regulating doctors? Maybe get a hand slap and I'll be cremated by them. Speak up people ! You're paying for his crappy service .

The cancer clinic is one of the best places for those with cancer. My husband had knowledgeable and caring oncologistics. We are lucky to have such a great place in Kelowna.

Kelowna cancer clinic took care of me, and my hubby 3 years earlier, 2011 and 2016. Staff and our doctor on radiation side Dr Bashand were absolutely Awesome, caring and compasionate. I did request the same radiology doctor who took care of hubby before my cancer diagnosis. Thank you for the care you gave us both Rad team! Chemo side not as good. Hubby did not like his chemo oncologist Dr Ko..... or something like that. He was pushy and did tell us hubby would die anyway, yup he did just over a year later. When I was later diagnosed with cancer I told the hospital I did not want him and I got a woman chemo doctor. She was also pushy and when she realized I didnt want the chemo but did want the radiation she told me flat out that even tho the tumor was surgically removed already I would get it back in a year and there would be nothing she could do then and I would die. I stuck to my guns... or gummies and radiation... hello chemo Doctor, Dr Merc..... its 2022 and I'm still here just 6 years later. I dont tell people to skip chemo but I did what I had studied for months during Hubby's chemo and radiation which he ultimately did not survive and I still miss him dearly but I am here to say... radiation, a positive, supportive team and a gummy bear a night pulled me through. Chemo staff was also not nearly as compassionate as Rad side. But over all the cancer clinic was clean, has calming colors on the walls and before Covid had a big piano, puzzles my mom loved to work on while I was in treatment and lovely sitting areas. And HUGE KOODOS to the volunteer team who were there for me during my hubby's care and mine. YOU people Rock! And I cant forget the Masons drivers either... you guys were a God send!
