I was admitted to emergency on cairns yesterday with an urgent issue. I was worried to go there after the abysmal treatment l had received during my last encounter at Atherton and was expecting more of the same. How wrong l was . The experience was the complete opposite. The staff realising my issue could be serious, were welcoming, professional, prompt. They gave me every test appropriate to the issue at hand, the doctors instigated a plan to resolve my problem and l was home the next day.

I am thoroughly shocked at the Orthopaedic clinic. I waited 12 months to get appt, that was fine, but once I got there for my 230pm appt, I waited patiently, but by 4pm, everyone the came before me came and left, I had X-rays at 245 pm, then at 430pm I suffering from chronic pain had to leave or else I end up screaming, no one was at counter, only a few ppl left. I got home at 5pm. Then at 540pm, I had a call from the nurse looking for me!! Imagine the long wait and no one to reassure me that I have not been forgotten. So from a 230appt, they could only see me 3hours later? Shocking. I had to cancel my rebooking for July as I could not bear another 3 hour wait..I have had major spinal fusion and hip surgery, how do you expect one to sit there for that long? Shocking, shocking the way the clinic works, and I saw there were minimum 4 Drs on duty!!

Great team at ED Had a heart attack they worked above and beyond Critical Care staff were excellent in pain management and my well being However after being rushed into surgery having stints put in I was moved out of CC ward and left in a room with no monitoring Realy poorly trained or just not interested staff Lack of communication between 3 doctors left me with out pain relief for 6 hours and having to beg for pain medication to be told no and virtually put on the drug addict Was Disgusting behaviour from the staff and doctors Rude arrogant staff more interested in social media than patients

I have unfortunately spent so much time in the ED of Cairns base hospital lately but the staff are truely amazing people and they have looked after me so well. Even though I have had a few long waits for a bed (sometimes around 5 hours during code yellow) they have always ensured my pain is kept under control and I am kept warm and hydrated. The things that I have seen staff had to put up with is appalling. The drug users that come in off their dials and abuse staff, steal things and cause so much havoc are all dealt with in a professional manner. It’s amazing to see. My only gripe is that the ED waiting room and toilet facilities are deplorable. They are always dirty, the locks on the bathroom doors don’t work and you wouldn’t want to make contact with the toilet seat. They need to upgrade the furniture and facilities in the hospital. Otherwise the place is amazing and I am so grateful to the staff who work in the Emergency Department. You are all lifesavers and I am forever grateful for your care.

The vast difference between care between the day and night team is ridiculous. If you need to stay overnight, don't bother with Cairns hospital. Ask for day surgery or try another hospital. I have been in agonising pain for hours and every time I ask for help the nurses say they are busy and will come back to me. No one does and then I ask for help again and they act as if it's brand new information. I have walked past 30+ doctors/nurses crying and in pain and not one has assisted me, the ward I'm in hasn't checked on me for hours even though they know I'm asking for pain relief and they are just sitting at their computers having a chat with each other. This has been such a disgusting and poor experience and to think I've had a major operation and this is how they treat their patients. Save yourself the pain, misery and embarrassment. Go to another hospital if you need an overnight stay. The day team were absolutely fantastic so if it's day surgery, they were amazing. It honestly feels like it's a completely different hospital.

If you are Aboriginal, you will receive second class treatment; abuse from Nursing Staff and can hear Aboriginals being tormented by Nurses; neglect of care. If I end up at CBH again and the neglect of care is still going on, I will go straight to the United Nations, take legal action against Nursing & Medical staff.

I can't believe a hospital would actually think about sending somebody home that's been there for a week and not had a bowel movement. That's how people get sent home from hospital and die 3 days later it's got to be neglect.

Infectious Diseases doctor sent me home saying nothing wrong despite months of pain and deteriorating health. Just got diagnosed with tick-borne illness (Bartonella) acquired on the Tablelands and health is now very poor as it's taken so long to get a diagnosis/treatment
