My husband went for a Day Hip Replacement surgery on February 24, 2023. During his surgery he aspirated. His vomit went into his lungs and the oxygen was cut off from his brain. Although, much like experiencing drowning. Then he went into Cardiac Arrest. After being given CPR a rhythm and pulse were re-established. He was transferred to the Recovery Room and ventilated. It was a completely devastating for my family as we watched and listened the staff. We were in complete shock as it was a Day Surgery for a Hip Replacement. He was then transferred to the Grace Hospital ICU and on the seventh day was removed from the ventilator and passed away on March 3rd, 2023. Our lives, as his, have been destroyed. The Concordia Hospital website ensures a better of quality of life by enabling a man to walk once again free of pain. My husband, however, never had that chance to walk. Months later we were asked to come to the Concordia once again to review what happened and if so question the surgery. However, none of the Surgical Team was in attendance. Only to be replaced by bystanders that were not in the Operating Theatre at the time of the event. Nearly, one year later, I still ask why a team of proposed skilled healthcare leaders could not read the monitors that clearly had displayed that he was in distress. After all, it must have been so painful in those last moments. Suffocating, drowning, by no longer being able to breathe.

Horrible place and drs. Went there and had really high Blood pressure and bcuz my family dr passed the doctor asked if i wanted him to prescribe me a medication and i said yes. Then this dr. Blondie gives me a written prescription without my name on it and when my pharmacy called about the prescription they said they had nothing on file for the medication and was told to go back to the hospital or find a family dr, which isnt easy right now, to get a prescription for the issue. Avoid this place, ive also had 2 other major issues with them involving my dads passing last year… absolute joke of a place.

Even though this goes way back to 1984 my
mother was admitted after suffering a massive stroke.
About 2 days afterwards a nurse untrained in using a Hoyer lift dropped my mom on her head onto a tiled floor.
I was bloody well fit to be tied when I heard about this.
I went to the director of the hospital to complain about this and how now my mom was terrified.
I told him I wanted the name of the nurse who did this and he said I can’t tell you that.
He went onto say that the nurse didn’t even know how to use the Hoyer lift!
I said then why was she?
As well a while later when I was in for my daily visit with my mom I saw she had her arm wrapped in gauze to a styrofoam slat.
When I asked my mom what happened she managed to slur out the words âtoo much insulin.’
My mom who was a diabetic could have died due to the nurse’s incompetence!
Months later in April when I was, again in for my daily visit, I asked my mom âhow are you doing today mom?’ whereupon she answered that the nurse dropped her on the floor again!
I did my best to maintain my composure and I asked that particular nurse what had happened. She lied like a sidewalk and said that because she was changing my mom’s bedsheets that she put her on the floor.
I was ready to explode!
I said âBS! Don’t give me that crap! There’s a leather recliner here in the room and you’re trying to tell me that you put my mom on the floor?!’.
I have, myself, experienced pretty shoddy less than professional treatment from the staff at Concordia Hospital like when I broke my wrist and I went to the admittance where when I was asked my name I gave it. It’s an ethnic name and when I told the receptionist it she looked at me suspiciously and said âIs that your REAL name?!’
It’s not like I told her my name was Jane Doe!
For goodness sake I had my I.D.
and my Manitoba Health card with me!
Terrible hospital!

My parent who had just received surgery and has dementia was in the hospital and the day after the surgery we were pressured to take our parent home without setting up homecare. Not all nurses, but there are a few at the desk that if you called to find out what was going on or your inquiring because your parent cannot properly relay the info back to you and you call and are treated very rudely, are being spoken to in a condescending manner and treated like you’re an idiot! It’s not enough that you have to call and follow up with this person and the next person that’s one thing but when you call to find out about you’re loved one you are treated like you are a nuisance. Terrible absolutely ridiculous! I’m in customer service and if I ever spoke to a customer like that I would be fired! I will name the ward, it was floor 2 west. It was two women nurses who made us all feel like we were not humans. Go back to school and learn to not be so snarky on the phone with the families. You don’t know what people are dealing with and going through!

Rude staff, and don’t listen to what wrong or think it a joke
