Took my son in for sprained wrist hoping for a quick x-ray. It has been almost 2 years since I have been in the Emergency department here. I was dreading going again because the last time I was in with my mom it was a total nightmare! When I arrived this time I was shocked by some of the changes. The rude clerk that was there last time seems to have been replaced with someone who really showed compassion and empathy. The horrible smell that used to woft from the washrooms has been replaced with a pleasant smell of a bleachy cleaning smell (I actually witnessed someone clean the washrooms 2 or 3 times while we were there) I asked the janitor if he was bored (joke) and he told me that the new rule was they are to clean them every couple of hours around the clock! Quite a pleasant young fellow. The old, dark cheap fluorescent lighting that used to give me a depressing feeling and a bad headache was now replaced with bright almost sunshine like lighting (it actually put me in a better mood) Unfortunately, the wait time was the only part that did not improve and may have actually gotten worse. My son was diagnosed with ADHD a few years ago and after about 5 hours, we (he) decided that he would live with the pain rather than wait any longer. Yesterday we decided to try our luck in Glengarry. We did get an Xray a little bit quicker then in Cornwall but not much. Glengarry staff were not as kind to us as at Cornwall and it was definitely not as clean ( not a single cleaning staff cleaned any of the washrooms in the almost 4 hours in Glengarry)
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised at the direction that our Hospital has gone in the last few years. I am quite proud to call it my community hospital. I understand that wait times can vary from day to day and hour to hour so I really can’t fault them for that I would definitely recommend our hospital to others. To all the Emergency staff at Cornwall Hospital.—Keep up the great work!! To all the managers, Thank you for reviving our Hospital!! We need you!!
