The E/R at Doctors is exceptional. Quick triage and very caring treatment.

I went to Doctor’s Hospital ER in December 2016 when my blood pressure spiked after starting a new med. Found out a month later that the attending physician did not accept my insurance (Cigna) though Doctor’s Hospital did. What should have been a $300 doctor charge (In-Network Cigna) was over $1600 (Out-of-Network Cigna).

    1) Why on earth would a hospital use contract doctors that don’t accept the same insurance policies as the hospital?

    2) Why wasn’t I informed of this before I was admitted to the ER?

Guess I will have to ask if the ER doctors accept my insurance next time.

After terrible experiences at Sarasota Memorial…(fancy hospital, cesspool of knowledgeable staff and dirty rooms) I had day surgery performed at Doctor’s Hospital…since my experiences were only a month apart, I feel Doctor’s Hospital staff, rooms, knowledge and caring to be far superior to Sarasota Memorial. Excellent care and staff.

A medical diagnostic service was requested. The patient’s nurse said procurement of the test was the responsibility of the case manager. I left a voice mail for the case manager. Four+ hours later I was called back and told that the nurse I had originally asked should handle it. This was the first of many instances of “one hand not knowing what the other was doing or supposed to do.” To comply with community guidelines, I cannot describe the other instances, more “severe,” in my opinion that led me to give a bad service review to this hospital. Staff was sometimes “short” with visitors/family and even with the patient. I would not recommend this facility to anyone unless you needed to go there because your physician only had privilege there. I rated “facilities” as above average because this particular floor (cardiac) is better here than at other area hospitals. Oh dear.

I have had experiences with two other local hospitals recently that were an absolute disaster. I highly recommend Doctors Hospital. They reassure you with their efficiency, attention to details, professionalism, knowledge and compassion.

I had an episode of indeterminant cause and with the help of Community Services provided by the Veteran's Administration, they saw to my care in a big way. I awoke in the morning of January 14, with numbness in my face and arm. The VA said Doctors would be the place to go. Immediately upon arrival the guard at the door alerted the hospital and at least 10 people were on me before I knew what was happening. Fast, efficient and thorough were the nurses and staff that I had a video-neurologist in front of me, IV, ID, testing and into a room when they needed further testing. They have a whole floor dedicated to stroke care, and the least I can say is there are some really great nurses on that floor. Just don't be hungry after hours, something they lacked was sufficient supply of quick snacks.

Doctors Same Day Surgical Center is a good facility with knowledgeable staff that seem to care. I had one surgical procedure in April 2018 and then another surgical procedure on Aug 10, 2018. April's procedure went very smoothly with out any complaints at all. The same procedure done again in August was a complete nightmare! It started with my Urologist Dr Joshua Green showing up 30 minutes late AND he had at least 3 patients waiting. It all went down hill from there. Brent Davis the Nurse Aesthetician was following the guidance of Dr. Hauge. Apparently Dr Hauge let Brent handle my surgery because even though I talked to Brent and Dr Hauge about being gentle with my breathing tube because I did not want to have a sore throat, it didn't matter....because I woke up with a terrible sore throat- like I had swallowed razors. And it lasted until the next day. I also noticed in the recovery room that if I took a mid to deep breath it hurt, like in my lungs or bronchial tubes. When I told the recovery room nurse this, they just said, hmm ok and that was it. I think patients should be given a list of the medications they are given during surgery! All of them! Brent said he was going to give me a steroid- I did not want a steroid. And I have no clue as to what I was given. I have had several surgeries in my 54 yrs of life, at least a handful and delivered to healthy babies. This was the absolute worst overall experience I have ever had. The issues I had only began with Brent. My urologist Dr Josh Green insisted on a stent and then after almost 24 hours of unrelenting pain, passing out on my bedroom floor and going to the emergency room, Dr Green LIED to me and said he'd have to get the OR Team together to remove my stent (this was at 9am on Sat Aug 11, 2018) or I could have him remove it at his office on Monday! Later I found out Drs get paid 3x as much for a procedure in office than at the hospital. Dr Green was trying to intimidate me and prevent me from getting the stent removed until Monday so he could make more money but I called his bluff and told him to go ahead and get the OR Team together meanwhile 20 minutes later Dr Green shows up at the emergency room and within five minutes he removed the stent and essentially drops it onto the table and walks out of the room – The Most Unprofessional situation I've ever seen with the doctor and as I said earlier, the worst experience I've ever had in my entire life regarding surgical procedures and doctors, and all at Doctors Same Day Surgery Center in Sarasota. Fascinating to note that Dr Green's office has never done a follow up call with me and it's been almost a month since my surgery. Doctors Same Day Surgery Center did call me to ask how I was doing a few days after my surgery. I talked to Rachel the nurse who set me up for surgery, who was very nice and very good by the way, and told her all of my issues and she apologized and said she'd let Dr. Hauge know about Brent and my experience and that was that. So while I do recommend Doctors Same Day Surgery Center, I would be most concerned if you have Brent Davis handling your anesthesia with Dr Hauge!
