The nurses in the emergency department are (par none) the best I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. With many years of experience, they are calm, cool and collected. Unlike most large emergency departments, these ladies are responsible not only for your life but are required to draw blood and evaluate the results ( because there aren't any lab technicians), insert I.V.'s ( because there isn't an I.V. team)) etc. They are more like outpost nurses rather than the norm. for most emergency departments. The other major difference is, they are paid the same as all nurses in the Province. I believe in the evenings and nights there are two/three nurses on staff. When you arrive it might not look like the person ahead of you doesn't require as much attention as you do. When they triage you they make the determination as to who needs to be treated immediately. Apart from the trauma room that you see when you arrive, there are another 3 private rooms behind the nurses station that you DONT see and could actually be full when you arrive. With COVID running rampant there is also additional cleaning between patients that is required and oh yes.... I forgot to mention that those same nurses are responsible for cleaning between patients and changing beds. There aren't any custodians to do the work like other hospitals so please be patient, respectful and not as critical. Years ago my two year old fractured his arm at a large family reunion in a park in Toronto. We rushed to the nearest hospital in Toronto and despite the fact that my child had a compound fracture ( bone sticking through the skin) we were told the wait would be at least 6 hours. We decided to give him Tylenol and ice for his arm, then drive back home which was 2 hours away knowing our son would be seen IMMEDIATELY and yes, he was! Anyhow I could go on and on and sing accolades about these professionals but I think you get the big picture. The next time you walk into the Markdale Emergency Department and are told you might encounter a 3-4 hour wait; reflect on the reason you are sitting there and whether or not you truly require emergency services or if it can wait for the next day when your Doctor is in the office!!!!!! Sincerely, A retired nurse from Toronto ð

Disgusting is the only word I can think of when it comes to the service and the Doctor on staff tonight you get paid how much money to tell your patient who is in pain to "suck it up". You should be ashamed and change careers if you really don't care to show compassion to your patients.

The nurse on duty was so rude to my mother for showing up at 9 pm to visit her ex husband despite the message when you call stating there are hours for visiting. She made her feel so unwelcome, raised her voice and was so aggressive my mother emotionally couldn't stay there. I understand nurses are over worked to the extreme and expect so shortness or rudeness because they are human, but the aggression we faced there was unprofessional, immature and down right cruel considering someone my mother loves dearly is literally dying.

Doctors are egotistical, know it all that are clueless. Had to go to Orangeville after two visits in one week to get a proper diagnostic.
