Dr. Doherty, Dr. Gopaul, Dr. Mithoowany were all fantastic and helpful during my treatment for breast cancer. Along with the nurses and other staff coping with Covid, they still managed to provide excellent care. I started treatment in March 2020 just as Covid hit and wasn't finished until May 2022 - nothing but great experiences. Also a shout out to Dr. Charleton and Dr. Chesney amazing work!

I have been going to Grand River Cancer Centre for 10 years as my cancer keeps relapsing. I've had just about every treatment imaginable. My doctor rushes me out the door and doesn't allow me to ask any questions about my treatments. I often feel like she read another patient's medical history before she talks to me because the things she says make no sense and don't apply to me. Arguing and trying to correct her never goes well as she will just argue back so I just go in for my scheduled appointments and nod my head and smile to what she says, however I'm terrified that I'm just going to die soon because I'm not getting the scans needed to know if my cancer is spreading. Chemo staff has also fought me many times because I wouldn't allow them to use my right arm for an IV. The reason being that I had lymph nodes removed from my right armpit and was told after surgery to not allow needles in that arm because it could cause lymphedema. When I would tell them this they said I was being ridiculous.

The gentleness of the doctors and nurses is so encouraging. They understand how difficult it is to come to an appointment with the fear of a negative diagnoses.

My niece had delivered her son 4.5 weeks early at GRH. The delivery was done great however, the pedestrian that was caring for my great nephew told my niece that his breathing problems was because of the low dose drug she was on. This drug was approved for her to take during her pregnancy as many women who have mental health problems stay on it with no issues. Please know the General Surgeon told her not to listen to Dr Wilson as he delivered 100's of babies whom mothers were on that drug. Needless to say my niece has anxiety issues didn't even see her baby and was told that it was her fault. She is tiny and her water broke early as there was no room left for him to grow. How dare him to blame her . We are so angry with this man. I don't care if he's a good doctor. Mental health issues should be treated with care. Thank god for the general surgeon there and the other staff. He needs to be condemned for his big mouth. She is still waiting for her baby to gain strength to go home and feels it's all her fault. The Management of GRH should take Dr Wilson aside and have him go through a course about mental health!

All the good things, and more. I wish there was a more obvious counseling staff there. I had questions, and most nurses were great about answering them. Everyone, with one or two exceptions) has been wonderful at walking me through my treatment, which is quite minor in comparison to what others are going through. I am grateful to have the Cancer Centre right here in town and REALLY appreciate the parking garage discount. I encourage the staff to make sure that we are told right upfront about the 93$ for 3 months. I paid full price 3 times before I stumbled across the info by accident. Oh, my only complaint is that I only met my doctor because I came to treatment and wasn’t feeling well. I needed someone to look in my ear and tell me if it looked red, or whatever. The nurse huffed and puffed through my request and spoke down to me. I did find out her name, but I have forgotten it. It is very hard to actually SEE your doctor. And, do NOT get sick over the Christmas break. The whole Ontario health system breaks down and no help is available between Christmas and New Year. Still, 5 stars because I am grateful for it all!!

My husband Patrick Bause, has been treated for stage 4 lung cancer at GRCC for the last 2 1/2 years. Dr Mithoowani, his nurse Jen, the lab techs, and staff have been so kind, caring, and supportive of us during this time. The care was superb. Sadly, this week he lost his battle, but we had 2 1/2 more years with him in relatively good health and able to participate in many more new adventures during that time. We appreciate the extra time more than we can say. Thank you so much. God bless you all.

There have been challenges during my breast cancer treatment which will continue for some time yet. I’m very impressed with my oncologist, radiation oncologist and radiation nurses, pharmacist, and for sure with the staff in the chemo and radiation suites! I did not have a good experience with my oncology nurse, but for whatever reason I’ve not seen her again since kind of calling her out in an appointment. It;’s a very stressful time there now, with COVID-19, and I feel so badly for the patients who have to have treatment while their immune systems are down. BUT, GRCC is doing an amazing job to keep everyone safe, kudos to every single person who is part of that care group!!!
