My husband had to go to the Georgetown Hospital yesterday Sunday February 11th arrived at 11:35am, waited 6 hours in the waiting room before his name was called. Then waited another 2 hours in the doctors/patients room, a total of 8 hours. No doctor showed up. A nurse came in the room to assess him, but that's it. When we asked the Nurse what's going on, 8 hours is totally unacceptable, she said its out of her hand. We decided to leave the hospital.

The staff in emergency were amazing when we were there with our Mother

Horribly over priced to get the doctor to write anything down 3/4 times the price of any other doctor I’ve spoken to. Horrible ego’s run that place not medical facts

I’ve had really terrible and scary experiences with Halton Healthcare, specifically Georgetown Hospital. My experiences happened BEFORE the pandemic. I do believe that there are some good doctors and nurses out there and that part of the reason for my horrible experiences has to do with the healthcare system as a whole. The first time I went to the ER for excruciating stomach pains. They did do bloodwork but the doctor that examined me was condescending and dismissive but was confident I just had some constipation and anxiety that I was sent home. I was upset so I didn’t think to ask about my bloodwork and I was under the impression my bloodwork wasn’t worrisome if I was being sent home. Less than an hour after leaving, a RN from the ER called me and said I needed to come back immediately. As it turned out, The doctor had not looked at my bloodwork prior to sending me home. I actually had acute appendicitis (not constipation and anxiety), was taken in for emergency surgery and had a lengthy inpatient stay due to complications.
The second experience was a scheduled surgery. The surgery itself was fine but afterward I felt something wasn’t right. I called the surgeon’s office (they worked out of Georgetown Hospital) multiple times over the span of a week, insisting something was wrong and was told by the receptionist I was âprobably fineâ and the doctor sent in a prescription without speaking to me. On day seven, I had a fever of 105.2 and was lethargic and confused. My husband rushed me to the ER where I collapsed on the sidewalk out front. I had developed sepsis after an untreated infection from the surgery went rampant and was admitted immediately for another long stay.
I feel there has been a lot of negligence systematically within the hospital. The doctors don’t listen and their egos take precedence over everything else, the nurses are overworked, underpaid and don’t care, the hospital is filthy and run-down, the equipment is outdated from years of underfunding. Far worse than other hospitals. If you can, seek care elsewhere.
The point of me sharing my experience is to encourage other patients to advocate for themselves like I should have. Doctors and nurses may care on a surface level but they have so many patients that they don’t have time to be thorough which is unfortunate. If a doctor dismisses you, persist or seek out another opinion if you feel something is wrong because it’s your health and your life. Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish I had followed my own advice as I am still suffering with health complications more than 4.5 years later.

My aunt who was a Head Nurse at Georgetown Hospital for over 40 yrs and she has been in the hospital since before Thanksgiving. The meals are garbage and in fact usually that is where they end up. She has complained about the food & the condition it is but she still gets the same food. The nurses have been very poor in service / physio has been basically not happening she was to get it daily and since she has been there it might have been 5 times in 9 wks. Nobody gets her up until the middle of day and they have been putting a male in the same room she is over 85 yrs old and this is unacceptable

I recently had a 4 day stay in Georgetown Hospital for an emergency situation.
From Triage, ER Dr’s and Nurses, Imaging and floor Dr’s and nurses the care was 1st rate. The rooms were clean and even the food was pretty good.
I’ve spent a fair bit of time in hospitals over many years and did not expect the level of care I received during a time when our Healthcare workers are stressed and overworked.
Great job doesn’t seem to be enough!
