The Med Hat Hospital ER has to be the worst I have ever seen. A few of the ER doctors are good, but there are some that are absolutely terrible. They are arrogant and stand around with the staff loudly cracking jokes, talking about golf and whatever else. This is an ER, not a bar!! Keep it down, people are sick! The ER is complacent, I would drive to any hospital, even if it's 3 hours away, then deal with this one. What a joke! They sent a loved one home and said everything was fine, but they ended up having a perforated bowel. How do you guys miss something like that?!!! Unreal.

I was recently in MHRH for over a week, and overall my experience was very good. I dealt with many nurses and specialists (diagnostics, blood services, etc.) and they were ALL friendly, quick to help and proactive - except one. I had one bad nurse on the night shift, but I count myself lucky. I must have dealt with 45-50 individuals there during my time, so ONE being a dud is pretty amazing. And many she was just having an off night, who knows? The only problems I would even mention are more structural ones. For example, I'm rarely if ever cold. Even in winter I sleep with the window open a crack. I found it horribly cold in my ward, and I can't be the only one because the poor nurses spend half their time handing out warm blankets to patients. Management should really look in to that, because nurses have a lot better things to do than hand out warm blankets. Also, the showers in my ward were very nice - a good size, with a built-in bench - BUT the temperature of the water fluctuated WILDLY. I'd try to get it just warmish, but every time it would go up and down, and sometimes be so hot that it could scald someone. This happened every time I had the shower, and I learned to be very careful of the water. I realize some of the hospital is older, but refitting it with basic things like water regulators wouldn't be very hard. Ultimately, NO visit to the hospital is nice. It's not fun. But if you have to go in for treatment or a procedure, MHRH is the place to go. The staff are wonderful, the services are second to none, and you are treated like a human being - not just another number passing through. Oh, one point more - just a minor thing, but small things can make a difference. The quality of the food put out is VERY good, for an institution. My only suggestion would be with breakfasts - it's odd that you randomly get coffee or tea. Some people drink only one or the other, and some don't (or can't) drink either while in hospital. But you just get what you get - and this must lead to a great deal of waste, both of product and time. I suggest that when food services are coming around with breakfast, have a coffee and tea urn along with them. They can then ask patients which - if any - the patient would like. This wouldn't NOT take more time than making a bunch of it in the kitchens, and sending it around randomly. It might save a good deal of time and money in the long run, and also adds a personalized touch to a persons breakfast which can make a big difference.

I recently had a total knee replacement done at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital Hip and Knee clinic. I traveled from Cochrane to get the work done which considerable reduced the wait time. The clinic is in a new section of the Hospital, the staff is great, efficient knowledgeable. Everything scheduled was on time and handle very professionally and this was during Covid. The shared room was a little sketchy bu the staff was top notch.Can't rate this place highly enough.
