I’m so sad to write a bad review about a hospital. Before I begin, there are two oncology nurses; Nikki & Hayley that are unbelievably amazing.

I came into the ER on a Friday afternoon. I collapsed from pain in my special education classroom then proceeded to vomit blood. I am a chronic pain patient but this intense intense acute stomach pain ontop of my chronic problems was too much to handle, I explained the staff that I have had terrible GI symptoms every single day since December 11 (I had c diff) and I’ve never gotten better. I’ve been seeking treatment for 10.5 months & have done every single thing that’s been recommended. Nothing had worked. I typically go to stamford hospital but couldn’t make it there with it being an emergency, I regret ever stepping foot in this hospital. They have not managed my pain at all. They admitted me with promised that they haven’t held up. They had me take all these medications, that I do badly with, and it made me violently sick. I began fainting due to the pain, I fainted close to 10 times yesterday evening. They barely investigated, never hooked me up to a monitor, never hooked me up to fluids. They’re treating me like I’m the problem because I take chronic medications. They’ve made assumptions about me without knowing anything about me or my history. It’s been a terrible terrible experience. If it wasn’t for those two nurses, I would’ve walked out. It has been traumatizing to say the least

I went to the Norwalk Hospital for a mental health crisis, I have PTSD. I went on the ambulance and the paramedics were lovely, but the nurses… I I kept asking when I was going to leave the hospital and they also said “I don’t know, ask the doctor. ” They gave me an Ativan for the anxiety I was getting in that hospital room. Once my mother got the doctor after waiting, he said he advised me to go to the psychiatric hospital, I began to panic and the nurse began to bombard me to calm down, I was shaking and crying and continued to bombard me, and my PTSD got triggered. My mother kept telling them to stay, and she continued to ask them to call my therapist in order to reason with me and calm me down, They didn’t and I ended up screaming at nurses “STOP” twice. They kept telling me to calm down or I would be strapped down, and I was panicking even more. My mom kept telling them to stop because I had PTSD, and they didn’t even know! I was crying and shaking and I said this was so unprofessional, Nurse asked why is it unprofessional. Well, you first took my phone and headphones away and my bra like 6 hours after I entered the emergency room, They should’ve done that once I got there, multiple people saw I was on my phone and didn’t do anything. The nurses weren’t aware that I have PTSD, the way they treated me triggered my PTSD, and had a panic attack because of them. We spoke up about it to the hospital staff, I will be filing a complaint. If you have to go to a hospital in Fairfield County for a mental health emergency, please go to Stamford Hospital or St. Vincent, I was advised that Norwalk Hospital has a lot of complaints. Don’t go here, my therapist even said that I could’ve been traumatized from that experience, this place IS NOT ACCOMMODATING for people who have PTSD.

I had a very bad experience at Norwalk Hospital. I went to their ER due to very bad stomach pain. While in the ER I was told a needed an endoscope(ERCP) to diagnosis my problem. I had the procedure – and experienced throat pain and problems eating and drinking following this procedure. The hospital staff assured me it was normal and would improve in a day or two. Unfortunately this was not the case. In fact my symptoms got worse and I had to go to another ER on the advise of my Primary Care Physician. I was admitted and the doctors ran tests and found I had a large abscess in my neck due to a tear in my esophagus (from the poorly executed ERCP). I needed specialized surgery and was taken to a major medical center to have emergency surgery the next day. My advise is stay away from Norwalk Hospital. There are much better hospitals out there.

Norwalk Hospital’s Sleep Disorder Clinic is awful in regard to patient relations. Eighty percent of time, calls to their office go to voicemail, and almost ALL voicemails are not returned. I recently switched to Norwalk Hospital’s Sleep Disorder Clinic from Danbury Hospital’s because it was closer to where I work. This office’s unprofessional approach to taking and responding patients’ calls made the transfer of medical files quite arduous. When they finally assisted me in transferring the files, they set up an appointment for me with Dr. Weir. On the day of my appointment traffic delays due to a major accident on the highway caused me to be 20 minutes late. Diligently, I called their office while en route to advise them; naturally, I got voicemail; I left a message asking for a callback if there was a problem. I did not receive a callback, so I did my best to get the office as quickly as I could. I arrived 22 minutes late. One desk staffer had no clue that I actually left a message, and another staffer curtly said to his co-worker, speaking of me in the third person, “He’s 20 minutes late for a one o’clock, see if the doctor can still see him.” I was told that the doctor was in with a patient, and had a meeting following that patient’s visit. When I asked how another patient could be in my spot — did they double-book? — I received a vague mumbled non-response. I was offered an alternate future date for an appointment, which I at first agreed to. But after leaving the office, I called back to tell them to forget it, throw out my paperwork, I’ll find a better provider. Of course, I got voicemail – and I don’t expect a callback.
As a result, although I never got to meet with Dr. Weir to rate his care, I would also give him one star for the unprofessional manner in which his office is managed.
I get it: medical offices must run lean, rent space is high, employees are expensive. Still, when a patient calls, there should be someone to pick up the phone, or at least someone to return voicemail messages.
In my view this is a sleep clinic where the staff are all asleep.

The doctors and staff are great in the emergency room. Took me right away, did my x rays, taught me how to use crutches, and gave me instructions for follow up. Very clean hospital!

Norwalk Hospital is a really a shining example of what a hospital should be. The docs, nurses, and respiratory therapists there are really hard-working, dedicated guys and gals.

Cancer center was excellent, pleasant staff and specialists for radiation therapy for prostate cancer. Outpatient department very good for colonoscopies and cataract surgery. Always growing and adding new facilities. I have never been admitted as a patient.

Horrible attitudes were shown by about 75% of the staff, and 2 employees argued loudly outside my room door at 1am.One worker took my food tray away while I was still eating. One nurse was so viciously nasty that I almost checked myself out against medical advice to go somewhere else, even though my life would have been in danger. She had become ENRAGED because she was having difficulty getting blood from me, and was VERY rough. A doctor talked me out of it, I had my clothes on ready to walk out at 7am. Another nurse was a little nasty did apologize saying was "having a bad night", but the damage was done. The NOISE is ridiculous, non stop 24 hours a day. I like it quiet when I am 100% healthy, and being sick enough to be in a hospital and in such a noisy place-MUCH noisier than your typical office was NOT fun. I advise going elsewhere if you have a planned procedure. Norwalk Hospital is worse than a bad 1980's horror movie. Lace up your sneakers and RUN!! SAVE YOURSELF!!! AAAHHH!!!
