As a veteran, I would discourage all veterans from going to this place. The psychs (Dr Simy) was awful, nurses were terrible and the food and services were disgusting. As a senior Army Officer who has served the country for more than three decades, I deserved some dignity and respect. Dr Simy (who is apparently the director of this place – god save it) was just an arrogant person. The hospital had no policies o look after the veterans….just an awful place…please do not go there.

I have had a couple of stays in this hospital. The psychologists and some of the nurses are fantastic. That’s why I have given them a 2. The management are more concerned about making money and getting heads on beds. They actually call frequent flyers when the place is low on patients to ask if they need an admission. They are more concerned about getting sued than they are about patient care. The good staff have had enough. They need to get their act together. Stop letting violent patents admit and then do nothing when problems arise.

I would not recommend this hospital to anyone unless you want to feel like your in jail , nurses and floor staff are amazing and so helpful , but management has no idea about patients just about making money .

Pine Rivers is, overall, a very good psychiatric facility. People’s experiences will differ according to their doctor but the nursing staff are friendly and committed as are the psychologists who run the group programs, of which there is a good choice. I did find the nursing staff of Unit 2 somewhat better than Unit 1, they are just that bit more enthusiastic and caring. It is about 50% single rooms, 50% twin share so you have a very good chance of getting a private room if you want one, even if you have a couple of days wait and they really try to accommodate. The food is a bit on the fatty side – sort of comfort food but there are healthy options, salad bar and cold meats at every meal. The only weird thing is that they lock the front sliding doors and you have to get a pass from nursing to get out if your doctor has granted you leave. There is no drama getting the pass and getting out though. Nice and spacious and modern. I would recommend it – a great facility!
