I had surgery at Pres downtown on 12/13. It was the first time I was ever all alone in the holding bags and also the first time I was ever taken in to an Operating Room completely coherent. I found myself overwhelmed with the surroundings and goings on and after being assisted on to the operating table, I just laid there and started bawling. Almost immediately my anesthesiologist noticed. She put her head down on the table against my left cheek, stroked my right cheek and told me I would feel better in a minute. It's the last thing I remember, but I will never forget this lady, Laurie Stein. Thank you for being such a compassionate human being!

The hospital from HE(LL). patients call and ask you to come visit. listing their room number. When you call the operator and the floor nurse you are told the person is not there and has never been there.. then you call the gift shop and ask them to deliver candy and balloons to the person at the room number and that is done. then you call the floor nurse and again they tell you that person does not exist.. and is not in the room. This is abuse to the patients.

My Pres Dr. Louise Able Referred me to Dr. Javed Elias MD his receptionist refused to make an appointment. Even after a referral was written she also said that the doctor would not see me unless I brought my MRI and had 3 neck injections. My MRI shows my C6 disk is touching my spine, I am losing feeling in my left hand and have terrible headaches, and have had a prior
surgery at Presbyterian.

The nurses on the short term recovery ward were abusive. They interrogated myself and my husband about my medical history, which had no relevance to treating my post-surgical pain. If a patient is in the hospital for pain management and observation after a surgery, it is untenable for nures to chastize a patient for having diabetes, high blood pressure, chronic illnesses, etc. Nurses are not to place judgment on a patient’s medical history. That information is used to explain why certain medications may not be safe or effective for the patient, and to alert the healthcare staff of potential secondary problems that could arise for the patient. Many nurses threatened to withhold my pain medication, they took their time in treating my pain, and I felt like I was a prisoner. There was no compassion or empathy expressed by any of the floor nurses. The entire experience was traumatizing and the nurses clearly misused their perceived power. These women were not nurturing, they were cruel.
