I worked as an RN for many years at the Queen Charlotte hospital and ended up resigning due to a lack of policies and patient abuse. I worked in the community and found the Municipality to have the same lawless mentality as the Queen Charlotte Hospital. I made an agreement to work full time in Masset and placed a petition on behalf of the community in Queen Charlotte. I had thirty years experience as a nurse in all areas including Obstetrics and Emergency. After placing the petition the Queen Charlotte hospital administrator Kerry Laidlaw had me blacklisted as a nurse with BCNU. Kerry Laidlaw was rewarded by the Municipality in Queen Charlotte. They nominated him for a CRNBC Distinguished Nursing Leadership award. Pretty sad when someone is rewarded for going through corrupt channels to punish a person over a petition that was sent in with reference to violations to Federal and Provincial laws. It goes to show the fish stinks from the head down. The NHA acted like thugs after I placed the petition and banned me from having any contact with all NHA employees. They also made it clear that not only was I banned from working as a nurse, but that I would not get medical attention if I needed it. The corruption is systemic. I just wrote a novel called Robbing Joy available on Amazon/Kindle to give some of the details on the underbelly of the Provincial leadership. The NHA has permitted the docs to be in conflict of interest on Haida Gwaii, which in turn has led to abuse of power in most realms. The NHA abuses power worse than any health authority I have ever seen or heard of. BCNU and CRNBC are part of the systemic corruption and therefore there is nowhere to turn with the many complaints.

The doctors and nurses here are terrible. Even when there is no other people in emergency they will make you wait. They act like you are a huge inconvenience ! There is no such thing as bed side manner in the masset hospital. You only go there because there is nowhere else to go. If you are very sick or have a traumatic injury you won’t get treatment any faster so don’t hold your breathe. The nurses seem very uneducated and uncaring. They are also extremely condescending and rude. I took my son there for a chest infection. He gets them frequently and I knew he was very sick. The doctor made us wait for 5 hours and then said it was a virus. I argued that I thought it was Pneumonia but was shut down for that. I returned the next morning and got the same witch dr who refused to x Ray his chest again. At that point she didn’t have a choice she would do it or id be driving 2 hours to the other hospital. She finally agreed and what do you know, my son had pneumonia !!!! He was admitted – reluctantly!!!! The dr was angry that I had made her look bad and decided she would call child protective services! She never notified me of her decision, which is illegal. After the investigation was done and found absolutely nothing. I confronted dr weisengarber, she was shocked, she thought she would get away with it? She was a locum dr and has not returned thank god. That’s all we have is travelling dr’s. No locals. The nurses here are also mostly drug addicts who can usually be found at the local bar looking for drugs on a Friday and Saturday night. Keep it classy masset!
