My wife was sick for quite awhile. She went from 110 lbs to about 60 lbs.She wasn't bathing or washing her hair.I tried to get her to go for help but she said no.She hardly ate anything.I talked to the ambulance and they said if she says no to go to the hospital they couldn't take her. Finally she was so weak she fell down and agreed to go to the hospital.I asked the staff to make sure to check her out psychologically which should be obvious. They got her eating again but never got her evaluated properly. They said she was fine. How could someone be fine that let herself get that bad. They just wanted her out quickly. She was back in 4 months later.(Same outcome). Then a few months later back in again where she died.I blame it on Ridge Hospital for not keeping her for a better psychological evaluation which I think would have obvious.

Nope. I suggest going to ERH emerg for physical issues and Surrey for psych if you can. RMH emerg is hit and miss at best depending on which staff are working, but definitely do not ever go there for psych concerns and risk being admitted to Kanaka ward (psych unit). If you didn’t have PTSD before, you will after… It was the kind of stuff that nightmares are made of, and it was because of the staff – not the other patients. I did not go in suicidal, but I clearly remember finding and retaining the means to end my own life because it really was that bad on this unit, and there was no other way out. As a patient, I felt powerless where I had power before, and had lost hope, where positivity and hope never leave me otherwise. It was a dangerous place for me to be. I can say with 99% certainty that the doctors were unaware of how the behavior of the staff changed once they weren’t present. The day I got out was spent on the phone reporting incidents that never should have happened, and staff behaviors that were detrimental to many patients, myself included. What they didn’t know about me – and I kept quiet about it – was that I knew the family of one of the patients who couldn’t advocate for herself and was being mistreated, and that this might cause trouble for them. That was the first call I made the moment I got in the door. As horrible as this sounds, if you didn’t play their game by their rules, you were targeted, so it took somewhat of a strategic mindset to get through being there. Re-reading that statement triggers me and makes my stomach drop, but it was the truth at the time of my admission, and I can only hope that it’s no longer the case.

Holiday Monday, family day, and wasn’t expecting great service. After 3 Ecg’s and 3 blood tests to resolve my concerns, all staff were efficient and personable. As always, when you show gratitude you usually get it in return. Yes it took 5 hours, but blood work and tests take time to review. If Canadians understood that health care isn’t free, they would
appreciate the excellent services we get.

Nurses on the second floor were shooting the F bomb clearly from the room I was visiting in. They were talking about other nurses they didn’t like and I didn’t see them leave their desk for hours. Thought they were run off their feet but a few of them were having more fun gossiping than working. Was a bit disturbing.

AVOID for anything but first aid and treatment for minor illnesses.

This is the dirtiest hospital I have ever been in.The food they give patients is disgusting. They don’t clean the patients very often. Some nurses are awesome and some should not be working in a hospital.
