My wife took me on 21st December to the rpa emergency unit because my blood pressures dropped to a dangerous level. I was taken right away into the emergency unit and treated by a number of nurses and a doctor named Peter. Peter was a very nice doctor who explained clearly everything to us. He even took my blood sample himself because the nurse couldn't perform this task herself. After my blood pressures dropped to a normal level and with the blood and ultra sound results being satisfactory I was sent to a ward. Peter (the doctor) came to see me at the ward before I was discharged.

Pre-surgery unit are useless. They don’t answer the phone, and don’t call you back even when they say they will.
This entire hospital has a frequent tendency to delay appointments by 3 months or more, ignore calls, delay / denv help, and blatantly just don’t give a crap about patients.

I had emergency surgery for Crohn’s disease which went well. It’s the after care that’s appalling. On discharge they gave me a 12 page letter of instructions of care, medication and follow up information, with contact dates for specialists. They told me that it was imperative that i see the surgeon and gastroenterologist within a month. They provided me with the contact details to call at the RPA. From day 1 i have been trying to get an appointment- 3 months later none of the people listed have been available. If i leave a message for a call back they never do. I was meant to go on medication 2 months ago as well. Hopefully i don’t end up back in ER because of this.

Rude covid greeter at the door needs serious correction. Ended up getting no help at all even after 5 hours waiting. Triage refused to even give the vaguest estimate – another 5 minutes? Another 5 hours? Nope. Zero compassion. Overheard triage nurse proselytising covid vaxes on people, without being asked about them, on 3 separate occasions.

Absolutely incompetent hospital, would recommend anywhere other than this place

My brother, who has a mild speech impediment has been admitted several times to RPAH with multiple, serious health issues. I am unable for physical reasons and my location to visit him along with other family members who live interstate. He lives alone and has been unable to access personal clothing and other items from his flat or arrange collection of mail, payment of bills , etc. Despite the hospital supposedly having a network of volunteers, when he requested help in this area from the nurses he was rudely refused. I appreciate nurses are under a heavy workload but the callous and rude response was unwarranted . No attempt was made to to contact or coordinate with his support workers who attend to his needs when he is at home and a simple request to access a charger for his phone was also ignored, so he was unable to call anyone
. If this situation is a reflection of how our public hospitals are funded and run in a first world country, God help us!
