    Summer 2017
I was transferred from Tallahassee TMH to UF Shands Gainesville in early July 2017. My condition needed the care from the specialists at UF Shands. From day one being admitted to their Emergency ICU until my discharge day almost three weeks later, the care was excellent. I was diagnosed with a large cancerous sarcoma of the leg that needed to be removed. From the beginning my Emergency care nurse were great, the occupany was heavy the evening I arrived but they managed to get me comfortable and rested for the night until I could be admitted to the floor…Thank you. Once on the the floor in my room (North Tower) the Nurse, PCA’s and Technicians were endlessly wonderful. I met with my doctor (Dr Gibbs) to explain my surgery. In Pre-Op the staff was great (South Tower). The nurses and my anestheasia staff were so helpful, patient and really caring. It was a hard ordeal and they really let you know “we are here to help”. Next, I met my surgeon (Dr Andre Spiguel) who performed my three surgeries over the three week time frame. Dr A Spiguel was very kind, patient, and always wanted you to be comfortable. The surgeries were all a success. The Post-op staff made sure I was well cared for and my mom was comfortable also. She was there for the surgeries also. After the first procedure I went to my next room on the floor in Cancer Hospital (South Tower). Once again, my doctors (also resident doctors), nurses, PCA’s (always made sure I was clean and comfortable), technicians, Dietians, housekeeping – all great. Thank you God, I couldn’t ask for a better experience than my experience at UF Shands Gainesville Hospital to manage this part of my cancer journey. One thing I’ve learned is that going through any part of your cancer journey, its a must to be- Comfortable, and they (UF Shands Gainesville) all made that happen for me and my mom. We are still on this journey with UF Shands and things (followups, appointments, treatments, and care) are going well. Thank you, God Bless You, ich

I cannot believe that this dirty, nasty hospital is allowed to remain open. The Emergency Dept. in particular is disaster. UF needs to clean this place up and fire all of the ED doctors before more patients die or get sicker. This hospital is MRSA central. For a teaching hospital, it is an embarrassment.

My husband was treated in the oncology unit in 2008-2009. his doctor, Dr. Dunbar, had her assistant greet him in a hospital bed, after a seizure, with the information that his condition was fatal. this, delivered in a tone of, well, you broke your toe, didn't you? days later, Dr. Dunbar greeted him with the same message in her office. i understood his cancer was deemed incurable, but it hardly seems good care to keep the patient pointed toward dying. four or five months later, she had an appt with him in which she informed him his tumor was shrinking, and she wanted to know what he was doing differently than the other patients she had. but when he was sent to the hospital for a seizure shortly thereafter, january of 09,his last stay at shands, his care was left to floor physicians, residents, i suppose, and she didn't show her face once, even after calls to her office to please arrange for better care for him. i've gone through all the grief phases, i've waited till now to be sure my appraisal of the situation wasn't strictly emotional, but looking back, my husband was not treated well at this facility. shands came highly recommended by a doctor at columbia, but he was clearly misinformed.

Was above and beyond all I anticipated. I was referred for prostate cancer surgery and throughout, I always felt I was their main focus from initial referral appointment, Pre-op, surgery and Post-op consultations. Dr. Su, my surgeon, even personally called ME over a year later to see how I was doing. In 56 years I have NEVER experienced such quality, caring, concern as with Shan's in Gainesville. They even informed me and apologized for my surgeryappointment being 30 minutes behind schedule due to delay during previous case. I could drive from Valdosta (1 1/2 hr one-way) see my doctor and about return home before even seeing a local doctor at S. Ga. Medical Center. I never miss an opportunity to convey my experience or recommend Shan's!!

I was not happy with the lack of hopitality. There are no friendly faces and a lot of gossiping and conflict between coworkers. There is no accomidation for parents to stay with their sick child, we traveled almost 200 miles from home to this hospital. The cleanliness is a low my immunocomprimised babys crib had a disney sticker on it when we showed up which indicates it wasnt cleaned well and the IV pole had old blood on it. We came from All Childrens Hospital feeling comfortable with our daughter in the staffs hands to Shands and feeling a number with nurses wanting a paycheck.
