Such a competent staff this hospital has… that they keep a person with stroke symptoms and a very high blood pressure, sit in the waiting area for more than five hours. Worst emergency department in Calgary.

I spent several hours in day surgery at the South Calgary Campus. The staff and the doctors were all excellent and very professional. The nurses and staff were wonderful and helped make a scary experience bearable. The facilities and equipment were very clean and up to date.

Despite my Psychologist calling in before I arrived because of ptsd issues, I had to wait for an excessive amount of time.

We have been to South Campus twice in the last 2 weeks after complications from liver surgury. The wait took quite a long time because of the amount of patients that needed to be seen but once I saw a Doctor things got moving. The doctors, nurses, triage, admin and volunteers were absolutely amazing.

They have very good doctors and very bad doctors. Most of the emergency nurses are very mean and not comforting and you can barely find one at all if anything changes.

I have been to this facility several times with family members. Each time, we were treated with care and respect. My sister-in-law was brought into this hospitalby ambulance. She had alzeimers. She was there 3 days. She had 3 falls and had broken her arm. She needed to be safe and given medication for pain. She was taken to the 7th floor. Emergency and the ward both were wonderful. Thank you so much for your care of this dear lady. She passed away in her sleep.

I have had several horrible experiences at this hospital. During the Covid BS my teenage son was suicidal and we went to this hospital as it is the Mental Health Hospital for Calgary. They would not allow me in the building and one of the emergency doctors spent 10 minutes with my son and told him to go home and get some meds from his doctor on Monday (this was a Friday night). I could NOT believe it. Absolutely no help whatsoever, no follow-up, no support, no advise. NOTHING. Our healthcare system is one of the most expensive in the world however it fails in service over and over again. They spend hundreds of thousands in advertising regarding support for mental health, but offer nothing.

Long wait times but that's to be expected given our health care system has been decimated. The nurses and doctors are all very nice and competent. My wife is a nurse and has been in and out of ER the last 2 months due to an illness and she's gotten good care. She trusts the staff here so that means I do too. Both in the ER and when she's been admitted to the short stay unit. One bad experience I had during our most recent visit was that I was the only visitor who was asked to leave their family in the ER. Everyone else was allowed to stay but I was told to wait in the waiting room. After an unpleasant greeting from one of the volunteers once she found out I was visiting my wife, she tracked me down after and asked me to leave. I asked if anyone else would be removed and I was ignored. I don't usually assume the worst but given that my wife and I are gay, I can't help but think her reasons were less than honourable. There are chairs next to the recliners (presumably for visitors) and multiple people in the room with family occupying the chairs but I was the one asked to leave, the reason given was that visitors are not allowed in the area. No other staffs that we encountered asked me to leave and it had never happened before this one occasion. For most people this won't be an issue but just a heads up for anyone else in my community (🏳️‍🌈) using this ER.
