This hospital is my top choice for my son’s needs.

I had a cardiac cath here. My doctors , Dr. Ringewald (congenital heart dr.) were wonderful and the anesthesiologist awesome. Consults were done while in patient. Preop and recovery room nurses were okay. At one point, left me in room all hooked up to wires, IV’s and shut the door. I couldn’t even ring buzzer if I needed help. Felt helpless. I had to stay in CCU overnight. I am very PRO nurse and ANTIdoctor so for me to say that the doctors are great and better than the nurses is a huge statement. Pay attention: The nursing care in CCU was beyond horrible. The RN, Joy, tried to give me the wrong drug insisting it was a certain med when it wasn’t. I did take it anyway. I wound up having a reaction—hyped up, agitated. I called my CVS pharmacist and he confirmed she gave me wrong med. I refused when she tried to give it to me again. She was rude, complained about the smell of a muscle cream I put on my knees, sent me home with the gauze and tegaderm still in place, etc. Never checked the insertion site of groin for anything. This was the day nurse 7a-7p. She didn’t even give any report about me to the 7pm nurse (I was waiting for a van ride) and new nurse didn’t even know I was there. However, she did fix the fiasco with getting me a ride. Also, didn’t know how to put on Lidocaine pain patch. First tried to put it on without taking off plastic and then, put it on quickly. I told her it would fall off. She said, No it wouldn’t. Of course, about 4 hrs. later, it came off. The night I was admitted I had the 7a-7p nurse and nursing assistant. I couldn’t eat by myself.f They thought I was a baby. They left me without the tray table to get my food. The aide put up the bed. I couldn’t still reach the tray or position myself. I have severe arthritis and multiple orthopedic issues. They weren’t answering the light to help me so, I took off the BP cuff attached. Finally, came back but still didn’t help me much. I ended up eating with my fingers. I was so hungry I was eating stuffing, meat, vegetables with my fingers. How gross is that? The 7p RN was wonderful, an African American nurse. There was food in the bed. She had to wash me all up almost head to toe. She was very good and did good assessment of me. She was caring but, the others left such a bad taste that I never want to be admitted there again. I now go to Tampa General and so far huge improvement. I hope the nurse manager of St. Joe’s CCU reads this. Something needs to change that. And, yes, I was a RN for 24 yrs. before I became disabled and also a ICU RN at one point–Mass General in Boston.
