I spent 5 days in St Paul's back in 2008 after suffering a stroke. The entire staff - doctors, nurses, orderlies - were just great. I received excellent care there and continue to go there annually for their diabetes clinice. A wonderful hospital with great people.

OMG OMG! I recently spent a week in this hospital. I could not believe how dirty this hospital was. And everywhere, patients rooms hallways stairs and elevators. I am really shocked at the overall condition of this hospital. What the hell has happened here. The elevators are a joke. They have chairs where you wait for a elevator and I could quickly see way as it is a very long wait for an elevator. The nurses seemed to spend a lot of time writing in their charts but only minimal at the bedside. If you asked for something for pain it was a 2-3 hour wait. Basically you saw a nurse for your medications and most times they weren’t on time. The UBC nursing students were assertive and cold/aloof. Never saw much compassion from the nurses. I did feel that the doctors and residents were great. The wait time in emergency should be investigated.

Our grandson is 19. After delivery we were told, he may get a complication, such as meningitis, according to the pediatrician and the resident, due to mismanagement. He has now dysgraphia. The attitude of the doctors was unacceptable, that of nurses frightening. 14 years ago my wife, after successful renal transplant surgery due to severe B-Coli sepsis ended for five days on life support, with almost no chance to survive. She did, although with 60% loss of new kidney function and scars on the lungs. The donor was our daughter and she had kidney disease for 40 years. PSTD and anger persist. Apparently The Canadian Constitution guarantees the protection of your life and wellbeing. Sounds hollow to us. Is the Ministry of Justice or Health aware of many such issues? Or no one yet told them?
