Peter was great at first, couldn’t help you enough..slowly, over many visits he just seemed to get to the point he couldn’t care less. I have been seeing him for approximately five years now and whilst his staff are very caring, he is not. I feel he got his money out of me and moved on . His staff turn around is very high and if you want him to send out letters to other medical staff, not his own he never does. Lovely man but time has proven he will tire of you quickly and it’s a case of “next please”. There is an arrogance about him that I don’t like but that’s the man. I have witnessed him being very rude to a nurse who burst into tears because sh did not call him Professor Silburn. It was very rude to do that, even if he had just witnessed a patient die, compassion and consideration costs nothing doesn’t matter who you are

After waiting 9 months and being told by a GP my case of Parkinsons was not severe enough to warrant a visit to Professor Silburn I was in for a very pleasant surprise. This wonderful man treated me as though I was his only patient for the day He was patient, knowlegeable and a gentleman with a sense of humour. I am so pleased I made the effort to travel to Brisbane to see him as he thoroughly explained the reason for my symptons and ways of assisting me with future treatment. I am now happy enough to be treated by the neurologist in my home city. I can’t comphrend some of the negative feed back given by others. This man is obviously extremely busy and stretched to the limit so to expect home visits and personal phone calls and emails is a bit over the top. With the workload specialists such as this man makes me wonder when they sleep or have time to them selves. Professor Silburn I salute you.

Last year myself, and my daughter sat through a 3-4 hour talk on Parkinson’s that Professor Silburn was giving in our rural town. The reason being my daughter has Tourette’s and was finding it hard to see anyone to help her. After the talk he took the time to speak to her in private and was amazing it bought a tear to my eyes. He made her feel special and told her it was ok to be different and that she wasn’t the only person that suffers from Tourette’s. After telling me to email him her details I wasn’t expecting a call back as I know he is busy. I was shocked to see a email asking how she was a few months later. Today I opened a new email from a Dr who keeps in contact with him requesting to see my daughter after speaking to him. I was shocked that he remembered her and had tears running down my face while making the app. I have had so many doctors changing our app to a later date I was loosing faith that she would receive any help. He is a beautiful man & I will be forever grateful.

I’m pleased to read that many people find this doctor helpful. I never actually saw him!! I lay in a hospital bed for many hours awaiting the pleasure of the good doctor. Finally, faced with spending another night in hospital ($1000) I asked the hospital staff to phone him and find out when he would come. He sent back a message to say I could go home and make an appointment to see him in his rooms. At the very least this is discourteous and arrogant. No matter how important or busy he is he could have sent that message at 10.00am instead of leaving me waiting until 7.00pm

I am quite amused reading the comments on Doctor Silburn regarding MS patients. I have been with Dr Silburn for 24 years after being diagnosed with MS at 21. The reason he is ‘flippant’ and relaxed is because he understands the neurological system. He really does know best and I would never think of seeing someone else. If you want someone to jump up and down and act like it’s the end of the world – you won’t get that with Peter. Thank God. Just from a couple of ‘balance’ and reflex tests, he can see exactly where you are. He is extremely caring and overworked. He tries to put everyone at ease, that’s why he talks about fishing/golf/ponies; his main aim is to make you feel at ease. Get over it people. If you have to wait, it’s because he’s a bloody good doctor in high demand, if he’s not rushing to your bedside it’s because you really aren’t that urgent and if like me, he says, ‘stop wasting my time and I’ll see you next year’, then go home and hug your husband and kids!
