๐Overview
Aplasia Cutis Congenita is a clinical term used to describe a spectrum of presentations where skin fails to develop properly in specific areas during gestation. Although these lesions are most frequently observed on the scalp, they can also appear on the trunk or limbs and may vary significantly in size and depth.
This condition may involve only the superficial layers of the skin or extend to include underlying structures such as the bone or dura. The affected areas typically present at birth as well-demarcated lesions that can appear as open wounds or thin, scarred tissue.
