Chilblains, also known as pernio, is a localized inflammatory skin condition caused by abnormal vascular response to cold and damp exposure. It is characterized by itchy and painful red or purple skin lesions, typically on fingers, toes, ears, or nose. Chilblains is a distinct condition from frostbite and is considered a benign but uncomfortable reaction to cold.
