๐Overview
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are the most common mesenchymal tumors of the gastrointestinal tract, arising from the interstitial cells of Cajal or related stem cells. They are distinct from other GI tumors and are characterized by specific molecular markers such as KIT or PDGFRA mutations. GISTs can occur anywhere along the GI tract but are most frequently found in the stomach and small intestine.
