Giant Cell Interstitial Pneumonia (GIP) is a rare form of interstitial lung disease characterized by the presence of multinucleated giant cells within the lung interstitium. It is considered a subtype of idiopathic interstitial pneumonia or may be associated with exposure to hard metals, particularly cobalt and tungsten, leading to a condition known as hard metal lung disease. The modern preferred terminology often classifies this under interstitial pneumonias with giant cell features or as part of hard metal pneumoconiosis when related to exposure.
