๐Overview
Hordeolum, commonly known as a stye, is an acute, localized infection or inflammation of the eyelid involving the sebaceous glands of the eyelash follicle (external hordeolum) or the meibomian glands (internal hordeolum). It is a common eyelid condition characterized by a painful, red lump near the eyelid margin. The modern preferred term is 'hordeolum,' and it is distinct from chalazion, which is a chronic, non-infectious eyelid cyst.
