๐Overview
Illinois Type Amyloidosis is a legacy eponym historically used to describe a form of hereditary amyloidosis caused by mutations in the fibrinogen A alpha-chain gene (FGA). The modern preferred term is Hereditary Fibrinogen A Alpha-Chain Amyloidosis (AFib amyloidosis). This condition is characterized by abnormal deposition of fibrinogen-derived amyloid fibrils, primarily affecting the kidneys and leading to progressive renal dysfunction.
