๐Overview
Labyrinthitis is an inner ear disorder characterized by inflammation of the labyrinth, a structure involved in hearing and balance. It is a cause of sudden vertigo and hearing symptoms. The term 'labyrinthitis' is often used interchangeably with 'vestibular neuritis' when hearing is not affected, but modern terminology distinguishes them: labyrinthitis involves both vestibular and cochlear symptoms, while vestibular neuritis affects only balance. This condition is typically caused by viral infections but can also result from bacterial infections or other inflammatory processes.
