๐Overview
Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of interrelated metabolic risk factors that increase the likelihood of developing cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes. It is characterized by a combination of central obesity, insulin resistance, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and elevated blood glucose. The term 'metabolic syndrome' is the preferred modern terminology, replacing older or less specific labels such as 'syndrome X' or 'insulin resistance syndrome.'
