๐Overview
Myelodysplastic Syndromes occur when the blood-forming cells in the bone marrow become abnormal, leading to the production of immature or defective blood cells. This condition is classified as a clonal hematopoietic stem cell disorder where the marrow fails to produce enough healthy, mature blood cells to maintain normal systemic function.
In some clinical observations, these syndromes may progress to acute myeloid leukemia, though they were historically referred to by terms such as preleukemia or smoldering leukemia. The focus of this condition involves the ineffective production and abnormal development of various blood cell types within the marrow environment.
