Osgood-Schlatter Disease
๐Overview
Osgood-Schlatter Disease, clinically described as tibial tubercle apophysitis, involves irritation at the point where the patellar tendon connects to the shinbone. This condition is frequently observed in adolescents who participate in activities involving running or jumping, as repetitive stress is placed on the developing bone.
The condition results from mechanical tension where the tendon pulls on the growth plate of the tibia. This traction can lead to localized swelling and may result in a prominent bony protrusion just below the kneecap.
