Post-Polio Syndrome (PPS) is a condition that affects polio survivors years after recovery from the initial poliovirus infection. It is characterized by new weakening of muscles that were previously affected by poliomyelitis. PPS is a recognized late effect of poliomyelitis and is distinct from the acute viral illness. The term 'Post-Polio Syndrome' is the modern preferred terminology.
