This condition results from an infestation by the Sarcoptes scabiei var. hominis mite, which triggers a localized allergic reaction. The presence of these mites, along with their eggs and waste products, typically leads to intense itching and the development of a characteristic skin rash.

Transmission often occurs through direct, prolonged skin-to-skin contact with an infested individual. While the infestation is highly contagious, it is a recognized clinical condition that is widely documented in medical practice.
