📋Overview
Slipped disc is a legacy term commonly used to describe a herniated intervertebral disc, a condition where the soft inner gel-like center (nucleus pulposus) of a spinal disc protrudes through the tougher outer layer (annulus fibrosus). This can compress nearby nerves, causing pain and neurological symptoms. The preferred modern term is 'herniated disc' or 'disc herniation.'
