📋Overview

Suppurative arthritis, also known as septic arthritis, occurs when infectious agents such as bacteria enter the synovial fluid of a joint. This invasion triggers an inflammatory process that can cause the accumulation of purulent material and potential damage to the surrounding bone and cartilage.

Pathogens may reach the joint through the circulatory system from a distant site of infection or through direct introduction via trauma or medical interventions. While the condition can manifest in any joint, it is most commonly observed in the knees, hips, and shoulders.
