Supraventricular tachycardia (SVT) is a group of rapid heart rhythm disorders originating above the ventricles, typically involving the atria or atrioventricular node. It is a modern term encompassing several types of paroxysmal tachycardias previously described under various names. SVT causes episodes of abnormally fast heartbeats that start and stop abruptly.
