Tardive Dystonia

Tardive dystonia is a subtype of tardive syndrome characterized by involuntary, sustained muscle contractions causing twisting and abnormal postures, typically resulting from long-term use of dopamine receptor blocking agents, especially antipsychotic medications. It is considered a form of tardive dyskinesia but primarily involves dystonic movements rather than choreiform movements. The modern preferred term is tardive dystonia, classified under tardive syndromes.
