Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia
๐Overview
Waldenstrom's Macroglobulinemia is a rare type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma characterized by the development of abnormal lymphoplasmacytic cells in the bone marrow. These malignant cells produce excessive amounts of a monoclonal immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibody, which can cause the blood to become unusually thick.
As a form of indolent B-cell lymphoma, this condition typically progresses slowly over time. The presence of these abnormal proteins and cells may eventually disrupt the bone marrow's ability to produce healthy blood components.
