Dr. Skillman moved to Helena from Silver Spring, Maryland, where he had worked for the U.S. Army Medical Corps. An internist and infectious disease specialist, Dr. Skillman has practiced medicine since 1982, completed research throughout the world, and also taught classes at several universities and medical centers. He was born in Livingston and is a graduate of the University of Montana-Missoula. Dr. Skillman earned his Medical Degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed his internship at Madigan Army Medical Center in Tacoma, Wash.; residency at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu; and fellowship at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
