Medication Quick Facts
📋Overview
Evolocumab is a monoclonal antibody that functions as a PCSK9 inhibitor. It targets and binds to a specific protein in the body called proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9.
This protein normally limits the number of receptors on the liver that are responsible for removing cholesterol from the blood. By blocking this protein, the medication allows the liver to clear more low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, which is commonly known as bad cholesterol.
