Fenofibrate can cause elevations in liver enzymes. Periodic blood tests are often used to monitor liver health during treatment. If liver enzyme levels remain high, the medication is usually stopped.

Muscle Effects

Serious muscle damage, known as myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, can occur. The risk increases when fenofibrate is taken with statins, in older adults, or in those with kidney problems. Unexplained muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness may be signs of a serious reaction.

Kidney Health
