- Vitamin B12 Deficiency: Long-term daily use (typically more than three years) may lead to malabsorption of cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12).
- Lupus Erythematosus: PPIs have been associated with cases of cutaneous and systemic lupus erythematosus.
- Fundic Gland Polyps: Long-term use is associated with an increased risk of developing polyps in the stomach lining.

How to Take Protonix

- They may be taken with or without food.
- Swallow the tablets whole. Do not crush, split, or chew them, as this can prevent the medication from working correctly.
Oral Granules

- The granules should be mixed with applesauce or apple juice. Do not chew or crush the granules themselves.
- For patients with a feeding tube, the granules can be mixed with apple juice and administered through the tube.
Missed Dose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed one.

Pregnancy
There are no adequate and well-controlled studies of Protonix in pregnant women. Breastfeeding
